You have your history backwards. Because the country DIDN'T vote Republican in 1986, the Senate flipped to a Democrat majority, which lead directly to the Borking, which resulted in Kennedy and Souter.

So, go right ahead and "teach them" another lesson this year, and it will be another 20 years before we get another chance to solidify a Supreme Court majority.

If you look at the facts, Republicans had controlled the Senate from 1980 election until 1986. Democrats took control in 1986. This allowed Bork to get borked and then led to Reagan's Kennedy in 1988 and Bush 41's Souter in 1990.

A conservative judge (Bork)nominated by a conservative President was destroyed in 1988 by a Democrat majority Congress.
