That is why you need security in depth. A wall alone will not work. Remote sensing alone will not work. 100,000 boots alone will not work.
And even if you couple all three together, it still will not work UNLESS THERE IS A TRUE DESIRE IN THE GOVERNMENT TO SEE IT DOES WORK.
And IMO, that is the key ingredient that is missing here.
What I see as missing, is the understanding that there is a slew of other possible routes of entry and they will simply shift to those.
Trucks, air, sea........and the big one...."Overstayed visa's".
Then what do you do. Build ten thousand Coast Guard patrol boats? Cancel all foreign Visa's? Close, and or physically and tediously inspect every single vehicle entering through the gateways.....Close the airspace?
Hell, they could traverse the Gulf and enter as far away as Florida!(and probably are now)
The answer is a comprehensive one, and I can sure see it. Why is it that so many refuse to even look?
Good post. Give the approach to immigration laws since the early 90s, it's not encouraging is it?
A true desire in the federal government will not make it work, unless it is coupled with true desires on the part of state governments AND municipalities to see that it does work AND a true desire on the part of American citizens to see that it does work.
That's the crux of the problem. I know you're a smart and reasonable poster, but all this inter-conservative bickering will prevent ANY solutions from being implimented.
Please tell me you don't believe this is a "true conservative" principle. As Reagan said, "Government is not a solution to our problem. Government is the problem".
