Let's pray that day never comes. It is so refreshing to hear from people like you and Pukin Dog who understand what is at stake. You are a beam of sanity in this mad world of the masses.

Regrettably, most Americans lack the character that made our country great. We're becoming a society increasingly like ancient Rome. The "haves" want to squander their wealth on bread and circuses for themselves with no regard to the good of the country. (Ya mean we fund national defense with TAX MONEY?) The "have nots" are just as bad. They want government-subsidized bread and circuses. Both have bought into the delusion that freedom is free.

The Bush administration has faced a lot of challenges, from preserving national security to Katrina. In a society obsessed with instant gratification and quick fixes, the opinion polls aren't much of a surprise.

Actually, this is exactly the character that continues to make our country great. Those that have been in the USA the longest have always tried to keep as much of it as they can to themselves, and rightly so. It's human nature, regardless of race. I have never been one to compare our culture and destiny to Rome's. I always hold on to the hope that the best is yet to come.
After skimming though thousands of posts on this thread for the last two days, yours was well worth stopping at and taking the time to read. It truly inspired me and refreshed my hope for America.

Thank you and God Bless America, no matter what size or shape her future holds.
