Anyone willing to work and show up does quite well at walmart, lazy union slugs however don't have the other 99% of workers willing to protect, and support them.My local Walmart has openings for 35 cashiers starting at $6.90/hr. Overnight stockers at $6.70/hr. A Walmart employee in the electronics department said they had a fair number of applicants who were hired. They didn't stick around when they discovered they actually had to *work* to keep the job. Too many people expect to be hired and get paid for just showing up in a timely fashion. Many have no interest in actually performing valuable labor in exchange for their compensation. City government employees are among the most slothful of the bunch.

I agree, but the low starting rates are only paid during training and trial periods. They sort out those that are worth nothing at all during that time. Those of value advance quite quickly.

That has to be bad on someone's back because the floors in most of those kind of stores are cement or ceramic tile or marble.
