DDT use starts in July

UGANDA is set to start spraying homes countrywide with DDT (dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane) against malaria in July, the Government has announced.

In preparation for the DDT anti-malarial strategy, the US has given Uganda US$10m to fight malaria.

The US President George Bush anti-malarial initiative has chosen three African countries; uganda, Tanzania and Angola, former health minister Jim Muhwezi said.

Uganda loses over US$700m per year to malaria (more money than Uganda gets from donors to balance its budget), while between 100,000 and 120,000 people are killed by malaria annually, the Government says.

Muhwezi said the spraying was being coordinated at continental level by an organisation called WHO-AFRO.

When do we get DDT back here in the USA?
Africa isn't the only place that has Mosquitos.

This is way overdue. No wonder why Africa is in the toilet. Friggin liberals and their schemes.

Not really necessary here. We can afford the effective alternatives. The city where I live does aerial spraying every summer, and it's made the summers absolutely perfect. No mosquitoes at all.

Rub it in.

It finally rained here last week and now there isn't a square inch of my arms or neck that doesn't have a mosquito bite.

(I think "Family OFF wit Deet" means that the mosquito brings the whole family to feast)

Really, I'd like some of that DDT here in Texas, too.

Dengue Fever, VEE, West Nile..what other mosquito borne illnesses do we have around here?

How many people have died of preventable disease because of one woman's dishonest scholarship?

Malathion works just fine. So does Diazinon. I haven't been bitten in years.

At the beach in Chincoteague, VA, the town sprays regularly. Mostly there are no mosquitos, occasionally if they haven't sprayed for 4 or 5 days there are some. Maybe they are not spraying frequently enough in your area. Call city hall and ask.

"How many people have died of preventable disease because of one woman's dishonest scholarship?"

Millions, the supposed dangers of DDT were a convenient excuse when over population was the major concern in the UN.

I know you will find this hard to believe. Plant a mimosa tree, they grow fast and mosquito's will not go under them.

But what about the birds? How easily we forget. /sarcasm
