SPENCER NOMINATED BY CONSERVATIVE PARTY OF NEW YORK TO FACE SENATOR CLINTON! (Finally!)
Spencer for Senate ^ | 5/23/06

NEW YORK -- John Spencer, the Republican-Conservative candidate challenging Senator Clinton for U.S. Senate, received the official nomination of the New York State Conservative Party at the State Convention today.

“By first securing the grassroots support of the Conservative Party, John Spencer is following in the footsteps of Ronald Reagan, Alfonse D'Amato and George Pataki. Each candidate was able to unite the Republican and Conservative Parties after first successfully appealing to the conservative base,” said Spencer spokesman Jim Kelly.

“This year more than ever both the Republican and Conservative need to be together in order to be successful, we must run united ticket that joins both parties,” Kelly added.

“The fact is that our Republican opponent only offers an echo, not a choice, and in this pivotal election year, we need a motivated base that includes many Reagan Democrats. John Spencer is the candidate that can reach out to such voters,” Kelly concluded.

“This nomination is a message to the Republican Party that John Spencer is the best candidate to face Senator Clinton. He is the strongest contrast that will drive voter turn out among the base,” said Madison County Conservative Party Chairman John Mulhall.

“John Spencer is a decorated Vietnam veteran who was raised by his adoptive family. He is a successful small businessman, who won election and re-election by large margins in a very Democrat city,” Mulhall continued.

“John is a lifelong middle class New Yorker, and not just using New York as a temporary address, like Senator Clinton,” said Columbia County Conservative Party Chairman Matt Torrey.

“A contrasting message is what we need to take on Senator Clinton and John Spencer provides the right characteristics. John Spencer is strong on security, where Senator Clinton is weak. John Spencer is a proven tax cutter, where Senator Clinton is a proven tax hiker. John Spencer has spurred economic development to create new jobs, Senator Clinton through her votes has killed job growth. On the most important issues facing New York and our nation, John Spencer is clearly the best qualified to challenge and defeat Senator Clinton,” Torrey added.

Spencer said: “I am extremely grateful and honored to receive the nomination of the Conservative Party. I look forward to carrying the Conservative Party's message of a strong national defense, lower taxes and a limited government into November's election. Onward to victory!”

The Spencer campaign is successfully building a grassroots base as it has already raised over $2.3 million from more than 76,000 donations nationwide. John Spencer has already garnered the endorsements of 27 Republican county chairs representing over 60% of the weighted vote at the GOP State Convention later this month.

Mayor John Spencer, 59, served as Mayor of the City of Yonkers from 1996 until 2004. Yonkers is the fourth largest city in New York and saw great prosperity, redevelopment and environmental cleanup under the leadership of Mayor Spencer. To learn more please visit www.joinspencer.com.

A third party is the surest way the Clinton's know they can get elected. Not that it will be the difference this election, but in 2008 a third party could be the deciding factor.

Now we can watch the RNC throw some spare change toward Spencer's campaign. Much as with Lazio.

Thanks for the picture. He's a strong candidate. Hillary is in for a tough ride in the debates! He may not win because Spencer is not very well known and has less money, but he'll give her one tough time!

John Spencer (born 1946) is the former Mayor of Yonkers, New York. He was mayor from 1995 to 2003, whereupon he could not run for re-election, due to a term limits law he spearheaded while on the City Council, and unsuccessfully attempted to rescind while mayor. In 2002, he became a member of the Republican Party. Prior to entering politics as a member of the Yonkers City Council in 1991, he worked in retail, food service, construction, waste management and banking.

Spencer, a former lieutenant in the US Army, is a veteran of the Vietnam war.[1] He was the founder of Spencer Consulting Group, where he uses his personal experience of overcoming alcoholism to help others defeat their addictions.

I lived in Yonkers for a few years when he was mayor. He brought Yonkers back from bankruptcy and did an excellent job as mayor.

When John Spencer was sworn in as mayor of Yonkers in 1995, the city's finances had been under the oversight of a federal board for two decades. Spencer's efforts to revitalize the city, particularly its waterfront, proved successful, and control of the city's finances were returned to its citizens in 1998 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Spencer_%28politician%29

Both of your posts are excellent fodder for 'She Who Shall Not Be Named' to use against him.

I'm frustrated out here in WI, too. My WI GOP sucks. They don't seem to groom, let alone actually LOOK FOR any conservative candidates for future races. We're stuck with Kohl, Feingold and our CongressLesbian, Tammy Baldwin, seemingly for life. :(

True, "Always Right" but if we face the fact that nobody will defeat the beast in a Senate race this would be a great time to send a giant message to the Republican party in NYS that we will no longer tollerate RINOs. We can take an almost sure loss and achieve at least something positive. Short of a 2x4 across the back of the head I don't know what else will wake up the Republican party in NYS.

Diana....you go up against Hillary with your eyes wide open, you don't close them, and you go forward. Don't buckle now.

She has 3 opponents.
Spencer, Jeff Russell, on the Libertarian line and supposedly there is a Democrat out there running in the primary against her.
