WASHINGTON - The Republican opponent of Rep. John Murtha said Wednesday the Democrat should apologize for saying last week that a Pentagon investigation will reveal that Marines killed Iraqi civilians.
Diana Irey, a Washington County commissioner, said Murtha, D-Pa., a decorated Vietnam veteran, denied the Marines under investigation due process. She said even serial killers in America's justice system get a fair investigation.
"Shame on you, U.S. Rep. Murtha," the 43-year-old Irey said at a news conference with eight veterans standing behind her. "You have clearly lost your way."
A spokeswoman for Murtha said he had no comment. On Monday, he was awarded the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for his decision in November to call for the withdrawal of troops in Iraq. His pronouncement shook Washington because he has historically been hawkish on military issues.
Murtha, 73, said last week that a Pentagon war crimes investigation will show Marines in Iraq killed more than a dozen innocent civilians "in cold blood" Nov. 19 in the town of Haditha.

I find this quote a bit disinegenuous. By voter registration it leans Dem, but Bush pulling 49% should tell you how it leans, especially when related to national security and our military. And I find the polling results very interesting. 57% of district respondents do NOT agree with Mr. Murtha's view on Iraq. I imagine that number is even higher after Murtha's latest round of verbal vomit.

Murtha expressed skepticism of assurances given by Gen. Peter Pace, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on NBC’s "Meet the Press" on Sunday. Pace said the war in Iraq was going "very, very well."
"Why would I believe him?" said Murtha, D-Pa. "This administration, including the president, has mischaracterized this war for the last two years ... So why would I believe the chairman of the Joint Chiefs when he says things are going well?"

I'm not even going there. Makes it too easy for folks to shrug off our anger. I want Murtha's quotes next to his name, and I want Diana Irey and my Congressional representatives calling that EX-Marine out publicly on his despicable words and actions.
I don't think he's gonna do either. But it's pathetic we can't find a few courageous Republicans to call the SOB out.
The man has no shame. He may have had shame at one time but he is too stupid anymore to even realize that he should be ashamed.
I hope you will all (if you haven't already) seriously consider joining Ms. Irey's campaign in some fashion (signing up for E-mails, making a donation, letters to the editor, etc.) to show support for our troops and send a powerful message to Murtha and the other lawmakers.
That is the absolute truth and should be pointed out on every appropriate occasion.
I am not from Pennsylvania but I have a great interest in this race. Maybe it won't work out to our liking this time but time is definitely on our side here.
"Mr. Murtha, You need to make this right for our fellow Americans," Irey demanded. "You need to formally apologize for your reckless statements and your rush to judgment. Such unfounded criticism of United States Marines serves only to empower those who promote hatred of Americans in foreign lands."
"My opponent tells the story of this incident as if he was on the ground that fateful day. He somehow had a front row seat when all of the rest of America awaits the results of a monumental investigation, convicting these men without due process," Irey said.
Irey was joined today in Washington by veterans and supporters alike who made the long trip from southwestern Pennsylvania to Washington in order to show their support for her campaign and their disappointment in John Murtha.
"I have come to Washington today to represent the outrage of not only the constituents of Pennsylvania's 12th district, but the outrage of people all across America," Irey said.

I really don't think Muthra is senile, that would give him an easy excuse for what he has said.
I perfer to think he is just a traitor hiding behind his right to debate freely as a congressman to say whatever pops into his head at the moment. Anything that is that will hurt the efforts of our troops and the country.
