That doesn't follow at all. The media often uses local "talent" for the support crews, cameramen, sound-men etc. Even though this CBS team didn't seem to (possibly because they were embedded) More likely the terrorists have infiltrated the media, as little as that might seem to be necessary. They also certainly have their own "embeds" within the Iraqi military. It's also possible that their were Iraqi military in the convoy as well, so any terrorists back at the base of the Iraqis could also have provided the targeting information.
Still it's possible that the support staff, some locals some from 3rd countries, at the American's base is providing the information.
Semantics. My use of the word "military" was imprecise. I meant only that the hostiles seem to have advance knowledge of where media people will be so deadly traps can be laid. Whether it's local talent or spies in the embed system, I'd focus on smoking them out.
