A man was fatally stabbed, another was shot and a third was trampled as revelers fled a fight at a packed downtown nightclub on Memorial Day, the only reported death connected to violence during an annual hip-hop celebration at South Florida nightspots.

The three Miami men were brought to Jackson Memorial Hospital after police received reports of gunshots at the Metropolis nightclub shortly before 4 a.m., Miami police spokesman Delrish Moss said. Roger Hall, 22, died from stab wounds about an hour later at the hospital, Moss said.

Lee Fowner, 22, was shot in a thigh and was in good condition after undergoing surgery, Moss said. Ijamyn Grey, 26, was only bruised and scraped after the crowd trampled him when he was trying to leave the club after the shots were heard.

Moss said police didn't have any suspects or motives in the melee, as witnesses couldn't identify the attackers. No other injuries were reported.

He said officers described the club as a "scene of chaos" when they arrived, like "the aftermath of a winning football game" with people running everywhere. Police estimated more than 1,100 people were at the club, which can hold up to 2,000.

"We were actually lucky that only one person was killed. When you fire shots in a crowd like that it's not uncommon to have multiple deaths," Moss said.

In recent years, South Florida, and Miami Beach in particular, have drawn thousands of fans of hip-hop music and culture over the Memorial Day weekend, which is billed as Urban Beach Week. So far this year, Miami Beach police have made almost twice as many arrests compared to last year.

Yes. 1 person stabbed to death, 856 people arrested, and 52 guns confiscated over 4 DAYS.

The MSM can't help itself from putting the best possible spin on this celebration.

Hip hop events need to study and learn from history. They need to make the participants check their weapons at the door.

My idea of "revelry" usually doesn't involve someone dying. I'm just so not with it, I guess.

I love this "Hey, we only had one killed this time! Isn't that great?" attitude as well.

Us local Miamians have figured out to stay more indoors during this time of year. Some even leave Miami Beach for other dests. Miami Beach isn't the same. The only good thing is having Shaq as a cop.

I don't ever buy, watch, or attend anything with the word "urban" in its name. Saves trouble and aggravation.

Miami is a piker compared to Milwaukee this weekend. We have had like 9 people shot and killed and about another 15 wounded. All nutso stuff like 2 groups arguing and one side pulls the guns and shoots. The other side becomes a bullet sponge.
