The Chicxulub meteor is thought to have been 6 miles wide, while the Wilkes Land meteor could have been up to 30 miles wide -- four or five times wider.

30 miles wide. Kinda explains why 95% of life died out.

Anyone else wondering about the article's' mentioning the crater's diameter as both "30 miles" and "300 miles" -- in multiple paragraphs...?

It stands to reason that before any mass evolution spurt such as the Cambrian explosion there would have to be a mass extinction event such as a monster meteor impact to "clear the way" so to speak.

Do scientists have a theory on what spurred the Cambrian explostion?
