In one of my previous lives I was a bartender. I can tell you, smokers tip better than non-smokers and stay longer at the bar. I have also noted that smokers are a lot more fun to talk to than non-smokers.

It will be real interesting to see if the non smoking trolls show up at this thread.

My hometown of Bloomington/Normal IL will be smoke free as of 1/1/07. I have never smoked, but I was very vocal against the ban. If I were a business owner, I would sue the city!

Woo HOO!@!!!
My American Legion mail just sent me back this:
"Presidant Bush signed exc order that All Veterns Building and Lodges were exempt from the non smoking Law. Let them know state law has no effect on them."
I will have to get a note to them!

whoever says or produces statistics that show the smoking ban has a positive effect on the bar/tavern/saloon business is extremely naive.

I'd like to know where the spirit that defeated alcohol prohibition has gone.
Where are the smoke-easies?

Thank$ to new $tate legi$lation prohibiting $moking in all public place$ but ca$ino$. Bottom line -- Big Casino operators have more rights than Vets.

As a resident of New Jersey my options here are rather limited. I've boycotted bars and restaurants in New York City since it passed a smoking ban a few years ago, but that only works when you have nearby alternatives like New Jersey.
For now, I'd recommend a total boycott of all Atlantic City casinos for as long as this smoking ban is in effect -- mainly because the casino exemption in this law is a damned disgrace.

(Can money pay for all the days I lived awake but half asleep?)
Sitting in heat and humidity rather than cool comfort just so they can smoke?
Someone please tell me this is not an addiction.
Cheers,

"People are having a couple of drinks. They get tired having to go outside (to smoke), and leave," Reed said. Seems like we have a few less drunks on the road, thanks to this smoking ban. This ought to save us TP'ers some money for response costs, not to mention the lives saved.
