The 50k altitude is less important than the fact that the bomb will travel 24 miles after being dropped and fly through the bad guy's front door. I'm exaggerating with the front door part, so don't bother with some asinine comment about errors or kool-aid

Talk about asinine, a 24 mile standoff while traveling at Mach 1.5 ain't much, Einstein, especially when one considers the amount of time it takes radio waves, such as those emitted by a PPI radar, to travel and return, aka a RRM, said distance.

That was a slick way you avoided responding about the shootdown of Gary Powers.

You didn't ask a question, sweetheart: "In another post you mention Gary Powers and, in another you mention the F-117 shot down in bill clinton's war." Try doing that and you'll get a response.

I'm not sure of a SAM-2's effective range. I assume it is somewhere around 60,000 meters.

That would be an incorrect assumption. You're only off by ~100K feet. .

I am familiar with the F-117 shootdown and while I agree with you about the arrogance and poor tactics used by the Air Force, you have to remember who was CIC at the time and what he was doing to the military.

Yet another asinine comment on your part. The bent one wasn't issuing ATOs in the ops shack at Aviano and trying to blame that screw up on him is absurd. Air Force arrogance and stupidity, exclusively, were responsible for that f*** up.

What I find I telling is the fact that no other Nighthawks have been shot down since, even though they have been use to attack well defended targets.

What you should find telling is that F-117s no longer operate without EA-6B escorts. The Air Force learned from wiping all of that egg off of their face not to deviate from SOP and not to underestimate the capabilities of their enemies.

The Iraqis must have been less skilled than the Serbs.

Their radar operators certainly were. There were exceptions as the Iraqi pilot who flamed Scott Speicher will attest to as will the Iraqis who downed all of those A-10s with IR MANPADs.

Good morning.

I'm not your sweetheart and I'm not asking for a response from you.

An aircraft that can drop a bomb that essentially can't be knocked down at a target that doesn't know that it is a target, turn and depart the area at two times the speed of sound is in, fact very much. The speed of radio waves is irrelevant when the 24 mile standoff you laugh at involves a weapon that is virtually invisible, dropped from a platform with the abilities of the Raptor.

"That would be an incorrect assumption. You're only off by ~100K feet."

Thank you. That was why I suggested that you look it up. Someday when I have nothing better to do I'll check your facts.

"The bent one wasn't issuing ATOs in the ops shack at Aviano and trying to blame that screw up on him is absurd."

billy jeff colored everything that happened in the military when he was President. From promotions to policy, the clinton posse made it happen in the way it did at CENTCOM. We are still dealing with the scat he left behind.

"What you should find telling is that F-117s no longer operate without EA-6B escorts."

That's good to know. It would suck badly if we didn't learn from our mistakes eh. Sort of like the armor and the Rangers in Mogadishu.

Good afternoon.
"Someday when I have nothing better to do I'll check your facts."

How embarrassing! I wrote meters when I was supposed to write feet. Here you said I was off by 100,000 feet and it was more like 136,000 feet. Oh, well, close enough if you are the one they are shooting at. The slant range of 25 miles is interesting, too, but my point is that a mile more or less and 60k feet, more or less, doesn't mean much to a plane like the Raptor with modern ECW technology controlling the battlefield that drops it's weapon at near the limits of a defender's range.

Well said and important point well worth repeating.

I was just explaining yesterday to my 16 yr old daughter about how Dubya takes daily, hour-long security briefings, and how Clintoon hated those briefings. She replied that x42 was a fool, because "isn't that part of the job, and his duty?" The lesson was that in putting himself through those briefings, Bush is imposing a regimen upon the leadership that scales down through the ranks. That Clinton failed to do this explains so many of those security failures of his that we're paying for now.

Leadership matters.

Good afternoon.

W has flaws, but it is pretty clear that he takes his responsibilities seriously.

With bill clinton, it was pretty clear that it was all about bill clinton and his personal desires. I blame him and the Leftists he brought to government with him for most of the harm that the Islamists are doing to the world today, including the murders of those two boys from the 101st.

Luck to our war fighters and their families.
