I don't think it does conservatism any good, when FReepers attack a conservative like Newt Gingrich with juvenile rhetoric. Just as it does no good when FReepers attack other stalwarts of conservatism, like Bill Buckley and Ronald Reagan. Lately this has been the attitude exhibited by many FReepers. I find it troubling. Especially when an old conservative pundit like Emmett Tyrrell takes after someone like Newt. Maybe he's trying to increase hits for the American Spectator. Maybe he's just gone bonkers.

Its a free country and you can belittle Newt all you like. What purpose that serves isn't clear to me.

Like I said, Maybe Newt's time has come and gone. However, when you look at who has represented conservatism better through the years, Newt Gingrich has stood head and shoulders above John McCain. That goes double for Rudy Giuliani, at least in my book.
