Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger disagreed with his fellow Republicans in the Legislature over the issue of health care for undocumented children Thursday, saying the state should provide insurance for all children regardless of whether they are in the country legally.
Republicans in the Legislature say they won't vote for the state budget if it includes about $22 million the governor is proposing for county health-insurance programs that cover all children, including those who are undocumented. Republicans, whose votes are required to reach the two-thirds margin necessary to approve a budget, also oppose another $1.8 million Democrats added as a first step toward allowing all children to qualify for state health care programs that serve low- and moderate-income families.
Majority Democrats have charged that the dispute has caused the Legislature to miss its Thursday deadline for passing a state budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1.
At a press conference Thursday, Schwarzenegger said he opposes Democrats' plans to expand the number of children who are eligible for health programs because the state cannot afford it right now. But Schwarzenegger, who has said he believes all children in California should have health insurance, agreed with Democrats that the state should provide coverage regardless of immigration status.
"For me, we should not politicize the children and drag them into this," Schwarzenegger said. "Children need to get all the attention if they are here legally or illegally. Every child should have the right to some health care and the schooling and so on."
Republicans said the funding proposals would encourage illegal immigration.

Only the legal ones Arnold. My taxes would be at least 15 to 20% lower, I estimate, without illegal aliens feeding at the public trough.
As with most liberals, the Govinator doesn't understand that socialism shouldn't be the policy of the federal, state or local governments.
It opens the door for all sorts of nasty legislation.
"Do you want Angelides to get elected? He'll provide mandatory insurance for all illegals. All you people care about is electing Democrats. We need to support Republicans no matter what." < /FairOpinion >
So long as that health care is provided by the country from which their parents are from, I'm all for it too.
Maybe the US should have some sort of "bill-back" agreement with countries. If a country agrees to pay the bills sent to them for the medical treatment provided for their citizens in this country, then they are welcome at any hospital in the US.
Obviously an impossible suggestion, but the US providing free health care to all these people isn't exactly a great long term solution either.
BUMP
Do you have to put his garbage out for him, I think he would be along quick enough to spew his filth.

It's now time for you to pay my taxes.
Pay the taxes and you can continue shooting off your mouth in support of your liberal champion.
Refuse to pay and you can remain silent.
So what else is new? Every piece of "bipartisan" legislation that he touts is Arnold and his Dem cohorts shoving socialism down our throat or some big-borrowing/spending bonanza that the majority of Republican legislators oppose.
Sheana <------- raises hand, ooh ooh ooh!!!!!!
I didn't vote for him last time, I didn't vote for him in the primary this time, I will NOT vote for him in November!
Arnold can go suck eggs!
Good Grief, Sheana!!! You remind me of Horshack!!! (put yer hand down now, will ya?)
"He" is not a "he" but the person definately doesn't want to be called she. You'll just make her mad.
She doesn't usually show up on these, the very worst of Arnold, threads.
