You're right, teaching is a really plum career.
Why isn't there a glut of teachers? Why isn't everyone hear trying to become one instead of complaining about them?
An influx of conservative teachers into the field could stem the liberal tide in education as well. Looks like a good idea to me.

An influx of conservative teachers into the field could stem the liberal tide in education as well. try being a conservative teacher in the lion's den of liberalism - it isn't just the colleges that are stacked top heavy with liberals - conservatives need not apply - only a few will squeak through

Why isn't there a glut of teachers? Is there a shortage somewhere? Here, when they had to hire a couple dozen teachers a few years ago )because of changes in the State Retirement plan that gave some an incentive to get out) 3,000 people applied for those 30 positions. Sounds like a glut to me.
