Booby-Trapped Bodies of 2 GIs Recovered(Bodies mutilated)
The Washington Times ^ | Jun 20, 7:46 PM EDT | KIM GAMEL

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- The U.S. military recovered the bodies Tuesday of two missing soldiers from an area it said was rigged with explosives. An Iraqi official said the Americans were tortured and killed in a "barbaric" way.

An insurgent group claimed the new leader of al-Qaida in Iraq executed the men personally, but it offered no evidence. The U.S. military did not confirm whether the soldiers died from wounds suffered in an attack Friday or were kidnapped and later killed.

The discovery of the bodies dealt a new setback to U.S. efforts to seize the momentum against al-Qaida in Iraq after killing its leader, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, in a June 7 airstrike. Violence was unabated Tuesday, with at least 18 people killed in attacks nationwide, including a suicide bombing of a home for the elderly in the southern city of Basra.

Coalition forces spotted the American soldiers' bodies late Monday, three days after the men disappeared following an attack on their checkpoint south of the capital, the military said. But troops delayed retrieving the remains until an explosives team cleared the area after an Iraqi civilian warned them to be alert for explosive devices.

"Coalition forces had to carefully maneuver their way through numerous improvised explosive devices leading up to and around the site," the military said in a statement. "Insurgents attempting to inflict additional casualties had placed IEDs around the bodies."

Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said the bodies were found together in the vicinity of an electrical plant, which would be just a few miles from where the initial attack took place near the town of Youssifiyah in the volatile Sunni Triangle south of Baghdad.

"Why do they need DNA testing?"

because maybe their faces are mutilated
I had to go to Da Nang in 1969 to identify a fellow Marine who was in the morgue.
His face was blown off.
"you want me to identify this Marine?"
I couldn't.

The problem is that during WWII, when the need to retaliate for was felt by our soldiers, it was simply done, and the press didn't proceed to have a field day with the results.

Like it or not, WWII GIs shot a surrendered Germans who they believed deserved it, and that was that. The ones who surrendered and survived were treated well as POWs, and that encouraged those still fighting to surrender.

There was no policy that advocated this sort of rough combat justice, but there was not a press microscope focused on our fighting men, either. We could learn some lessons from the way that was dealt with.

"The director of the Iraqi Defense Ministry's operation room, Maj. Gen. Abdul-Aziz Mohammed, said the bodies showed signs of having been tortured. "With great regret, they were killed in a barbaric way," he said."

Combined with the fact that they had to use DNA testing, my guess is that they were beheaded, and the heads not found.

I am so angry I cannot see straight.

If they need DNA testing, how do they know these are our servicemen? Could these two bodies be a ruse to take the heat off while they spirit our two guys out of the area?

I'm waiting for the outcry from all those human rights, humane treatment, Red Cross types. Hearing none, they can all go straight to h-ll. No more prosecutions for soldiers.marines doing their jobs in this war. I'm reading Warlord right now.
You can bet there will be no more Americans even thinking about being captured. Shoot first....and last.

"dealt a new setback to U.S. efforts to seize the momentum"

The AP is full of it. The deaths of two soldiers will not change the momentum of the war. The AP reporter is trying to change the momentum.

This is what you get when you try to fight a "politically correct" war.

Actually, it's simply war. Are you still expecting parades?

I have never, ever even heard of an enemy like this one.

Since the POS so readily admits to doing the killing, WHEN, not if, he is caught, we should make sure he is taken alive and put in a spider hole for about 40 years.

I am sick and tired of the American Left, the Democratic Party, and most of the news media. They can all shut up, as far as I'm concerned. They're totally wrong.

Yes, I know about the Japs, but they kept POW camps, they din't immediately mutilate all prisoners and they didn't drive trucks into civilian marketplaces for the purpose of blowing them up. And they didn't kidnap bakers.

When in our history was the last time we fought an enemy this brutal? Somalia I guess, but before then?

Also, how did these soldiers come to be caught in such a vulnerable position? I have to think some commander is catching some hell.

Right. I read down to this point, looked up to double-check that it was from the Washington Times, thought to myself that this had to be an AP article, looked up again and then saw the (AP). Despicable scum (the terrorists AND the AP "reporter").

That is easy, the platoon split up. Never a good idea. You will bet that will not happen again.

It wasn't that press didn't have a field day during World War II. There was strict military censorship of the press.

Skip to the middle of Profiling, Internment, Dissent and a Declaration of War to see what happens when we function under World War II rules.

Have you ever read...The Rape of Nanking?

Did you ever hear of the Bataan Death March

Did you ever watch the first President Bush discuss what happened to the prisoners captured by the Japanese.

The nazi barbarism was easily equal to the barbarism of the japanese.
