What you say makes sense. I hope much more comes out and that the msm and the dems will pay a terrific price for trashing Bush all of these years about WMD's. If Bush knew about the WMD's all this time while not defending himself (when he could have), it shows clearly that he is a man of integrity, and like you said, he cares more about the US than he does poll numbers.

The theory on FOX tonight was that because Russia, China and France were complicit in selling these weapons to Sadaam and Russia had been responsible for helping to move them out of Iraq before the war started, the US couldn't afford to bash those three "biggies" in the UN.

If two shotguns, a .22 rifle, and a cheap 9mm handgun is an "arsenal" (as the DBM usually reports), I'd say 500 artillery/mortar shells is a "stockpile"...ymmv.

OK, I'm posting this before I've actually read all the hammering I'm getting, so If it doesn't apply, please forgive me.
I just don't think this is the major evidence that we need. It is great news because it's out of the hands of the bag guys.

that the "US armed Iraq

I never claimed that the US "armed" Iraq.
Man, from the hammering I'm getting you would think I declared the Pope to be Mormon or something.
The whole point of our involvement in the Iran/Iraq war was to be sure that the war continued. We had no desire to see Iraq win, but on the other hand we certainly didn't want Iran to win either. We knew what Iran had because we supplied them when the Shaw was in power. They had a fairly substantial arsenal but fortunately (due to some quick thinking engineers) the new F-15's they had were useless. Also fortunately they are not very smart (I went to tech-school with several of them) so they were not very good at using the technology we gave them.
Iraq had a fairly substantial collection of Soviet arms, but the USSR didn't trust Saddam either, so they held back the really good stuff; and we only gave them a little "bump" so to speak anytime it looked as though the war was getting too lopsided.
I was unaware that we helped Iran after the Shaw was gone, but it really doesn't surprise me. Our objective was to keep them busy with each other, and it worked well.
At the time it was probably a good idea too; but sometimes our affairs backfire like they did in Afghanistan.
Hopefully you won't deny that we armed them, that also is common knowledge. That was to essentially punish the USSR for tinkering in Vietnam. The problem there was they were a really nasty lot with no one person in power. We had to be really careful to give just enough that it would cost the Russians enough that they would give it up, but not enough that it would cause us problems later. That also worked, and very well I might add.
As it turns out, it was a mistake to teach them the art of roadside bombs, etc. That one is coming fact to haunt us; but at the time it was a pretty good idea.

Times change, governments change, and hindsight is most always 20/20.

I'll admit that I did expect a bit of a negative response, but nothing like what I got. Certainly FReepers do better homework than this.

I tend to wonder if Bush is releasing this info THROUGH Santorum, rather than Santorum just acting on his own. If Bush had released it himself, the MSM wanks would've said he was only doing it to improve his own poll numbers. If Santorum releases it, Bush isn't associated with it and the information still gets out.

We all knew there were WMDs in Iraq. And most of us know that a lot of what WAS there is now in Syria and possibly Iran because Bush tried to throw the Dems a bone. That's the only thing I really fault him on with regard to the war. Well, that and communication in general. Of course, his lack of communication has spurred the Dems to show just how bad for the country they really are.

I think that I would perhaps not do so well in a chess game against Mr. Bush. If this was all strategery from the get-go, I have to say he's done pretty darned well.

That may be true, but if it is, it's unfortunate that for three years President Bush sat back and let his reputation get trashed by democrats and msm without ever defending himself. Furthermore, it hurt America's reputation too, because all of this time it was thought that there were no WMD's. And we're more concerned about not bashing Russia, China and France because of offending them? If that's true, we are totally screwed up in how we deal with things like this--in my opinion.

Iran had F-14s, not F-15s. I once worked with a guy who worked in their AIM-54 "shop". Funny thing, none of their Phoenix missiles worked after the fall of the Shah. He told me what part they were lacking, but it's been 20+ years, and I forget which one it was.

They did have F-5s, but that was an older design and their were not the most modern at the time.

It depends on whether the US President is a Republican or a Democrat."

We should check in with Karl Rove, since he's the one who put it there......

Lets just hope he was waiting for Tony Snow to be his Press Secretary before he went public. W needs to have a prime time press conference standing next to some of these shells (decontaminated of of course).

To a liberal, 500 shells of nerve gas in Iraq is nothing, but 500 .20 gauge shotgun shells in your closet is a stockpile. ;-)

Heck to them, a 500 round brick of .22 rimfire, along with a rifle and handgun to fire 'em is an arsenal.
