I have been of the opinion that it was shot down by the Iranians in retalition for the shootdown of their Airliner over the gulf by the US. I am also of the opinion that the US (Clinton Govt.) did not have the cajones to respond and wanted to avoid a war with Iran. As they (the Clinton Admin and their supporters) are the blame America first crowd, they probably surmised that we deserved it for what we did to them. However they also knew they couldn't publicly state that.

The only problem - I am not one for conspiracy theories as I know people can't keep their mouths shut. It would be very hard to pull this cover-up off. But the exploding fuel tank is more than a little suspect.

Yeah. And all that night they were talking to witnesses and saying it was shot down. I went to bed about 3 or 4 am and get up to hearing the story change. The spin has never convinced kid and I that what was first reported was wrong.

I found an interesting graphic/map. It's a little fuzzy.

This is the plotting of the locations of the witnesses to the TWA flight 800 explosion.

This brings up a couple of questions to mind: Given that it was a clear night and given that the visibility was excellent, how many people could have seen a Stinger missile launch from about 10 nautical miles or greater? I don't know how visible a Stinger missile launch would be at night but can one see one from greater than 15 or 20 nm as some have said the did? I am not discounting the witnesses on the shore because they had probably the best view but that was still be about 8nm and 13000 feet up?

Military experts would be able to attest to the visibility of a Stinger missile at night from the ground miles off.

what pretty much convinced me was Step-on-all-of-us's comment re: Flight 800 being taken down by a bomb.

Impossible.

And yet there it is. Not only did the air traffic control radar pick up a ship underneath the blip of the airplane itself, the controller was able to identify it as "a ship of good size." I guess we don't know as much as we thought, huh?

If they are trying to cover something up, why would they give you info that would prove a coverup? I have an advantage over you in that I was in the NYcity area when it happened and got news BEFORE the newsies and witnesses were shushed.

You have no such advantage. I was in Northern NJ on that Wednesday night watching TV. Don't assume to much.

I remember that too....
After the sun came up, the story changed.
You more so than I, being in the NYC area, would have a far better handle on what was reported at the time.
I have been a huge NYC radio and tv fan for years, and I recall the same things that you are talking about....
(I am in Va, btw)

The NTSB actually did a study on this and the results were very illuminating.

http://users.erols.com/igoddard/mvs01.htm is some info to back up the visible missile theory.

There was a video tape made of a missile shot but it was stored in the WTC and destroyed on Sept 11th.

The newsies have always covered for Clinton. They wouldn't need convincing. As for witnesses, if the newsies won't talk to them, who are they gonna tell? Do you remember those 2 witnesses that were arrested for interfering with the investigation? They took material to be tested. Who would mess with the Clintons? Anyone dumb enough?

Something doesn't add up with W. He has allowed himself to be smeared on too many issues that a simple airing of the facts could clear him. It's all about the 2 party monopoly if you ask me.

When the front portion of the 747 was blown off it would have the effect of flat 20 foot flat plate in the wind forcing the aircraft to pitch up and the center of gravity of the aircraft would shift far aft. This would cause a violent pitch up of the aircraft. The wings would immediately stall and probably suffer structural failure and shear off. That aircraft dropped like a rock after it was hit or exploded.

Then did you see the early reports and the home movie?

And you didn't reply to the rest of my post.

If they are trying to cover something up, why would they give you info that would prove a coverup?

"An egg sized incendiary device dropped into the fuel tank by a fuel loader could explain the lack of evidence. The fuel acted as a solvent that slowly dissolved a barrier in the incendiary device. Once dissolved, the device would ignite." A shoe bomber standing over the center fuel tank would also do the trick.

I remember distinctly, in the immediate aftermath of the crash that Kallstrom was adamant, to the point of being righteously PO'ed that this was an act of terror. Then after a few weeks like a dimmer switch, he backed off that stridency considerably and later became an advocate for the center tank explosion theory.

Thanks for driving me down that memory lane. My earlier comment about Clinton dirt naps was serious. I'm sure Kalstrom didn't have much of a choice but to follow orders to make up that unbelievable fuel tank explosion story.

We were watching the local Fox news. I was still using a TV antenna. lol And Fox was always the best channel.

I would think that the whole eastern seaboard was getting live feed from NY. In the first few hours at least, the truth was getting out.

Flight 800 isn't the only cover up. I still recall vividly Connie Chung loosing her job during the OKC bombing reports because she wouldn't shutup about the witnesses seeing a 'man of middle eastern decent' etc.
And the supposed 'supremacist' bombing the plaza in Atlanta during the Olympics was just too funky, never believed that either.

The reason why I mentioned the lack of any blast patterns, finding warhead fragments or finding the explosives residue for the warhead is the fact that MANPAD missiles do their damage by impact, not a proximity blast like you get with radar-guided missiles. Since there are no signs of a warhead impact and explosion, there goes the missile shootdown theory.

the fact that NONE of these blast patterns--let alone the explosive residue from the warhead itself--was found on the remains of TWA 800 rules out a missile attack.

An individual was arrested for removing some fabric from the aircraft that had a residue on it that would be consistent with the solid state fuel on a SAM. He turned it over to an outside investigator. That was when the government went into overdrive and said that this aircraft had been used in St Louis to test bomb sniffing dogs and this was residue from the exercise.
