Both Bush and Blair obviously place much faith in moderate Muslims, but without any clear understanding of who these people really are. Without first establishing what makes a moderate Muslim, relying too much on easy answers is a recipe for certain disaster. Who is a moderate Muslim?

Man oh man...this points out how difficult - no impossible - it will be to find and identify what a "moderate" Muslim actually is...and if there are any around. We are in for one long, hard slog.

There are only three kinds of Muslims:
1) Islamofascist killers
2) Enablers of Islamofascist killers
3) Ex-Muslims.
The last group is the only one we can deal with.

To boil it down: He couldn't name any real moderate Muslims.

Your probably right and I'd say that your group 3) Is mostly Ex Muslims cause they were killed by the other two.

The problem as I see it is that the "Moderate Muslim" is very much like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster. Everyone has heard of him, but very very few have seen him.
In all truth, the "Moderate Muslim" must be de facto an apostate Muslim as any good mullah will tell you.
Bottom line. Islam in any form acceptable to its own hierarchy can not and will not co-exist with 21st century western culture.

so what happens? I read the other day that Christendom and Islam might just annihilate each other - worst case scenario - and India and China will be left to pick up the pieces...

I Googled the author, curious, because I have not heard of him before.
And ran across this:
A Muslim in a Jewish Land

Tashbih Sayyad, I will now remember the name.

I guess that's what he intended to say.
His definition of moderate muslims is made up to fail. It's plain trash:
" ... Before enlisting an apparently moderate Muslim group in the war on Islamist terror, we must know a bit more. Do they believe that non-Muslims are inherently inferior? Do they consider religious or national identity pre-eminent? What do they believe about Jews and Israel? How do they characterize Arab terrorism in Israel? What is their opinion about Osama bin Ladens long list of grievances? Do they consider the war on terror a war on Islam?..."
For me muslims are moderate if they are willing to accept the freedom to choose a religion and find violence and religious clashes as disgusting and medeval as I do.
Not more and not less.

but then again maybe that's what he said ;-)

"But aren't there ANY peace loving Musims?" I see Muslims unwilling to put their own skin on the line for jihad. I also see Muslims dancing in the streets when someone or someones are killed in the west because of jihad.
"What about Indonesians?"
I guess you are unfamiliar with the new sport in Indonesia of raping and then beheading preteen Christian school girls in that country?
"Or Bosnians?"
You didn't forget the ordeal of the Beslan massacre, did you?

But Bosnians lost hundreds of thousands of people and responded by defending themselves - not by terrorism...no?
To: Curlyhead
islamists want to kill you; muslims just want you dead. There are No 'moderate muslims'.
To: Curlyhead
The sooner we come to accept that we are NOT fighting a war on "terror" (which is completely nebulous and would have been similar to Churchill advocating a War on Airplanes or Tanks as opposed to Nazis) but in fact, a war on "Islam," then we can much better come to grips with what we have to do in order to prevail.

There are moderate Muslims. The problem is that they have no courage and fear fanatics will hunt them down and kill them if they come out and condemn the violence. They stand silent while innocent people are murdered. Until the day comes that the moderate Muslim factions stand up and condemn the fanatics this violence will continue. This religion is so backwards I believe that there may be no chance those people ever come forward. BTW, this is not an excuse for those Muslims who are moderate and stand silent. By being silent they aid their fanatical brothers.I am just pointing out that to say there are no Muslims who are moderate and do not accept the fanatical elements, though silent, is an ignorant statement. This is like saying that there were no elements in Iraq who did not want to get rid of Sadam prior to the war. Geez, there are poles taken is SA, Egypt where over 1/2 to 2/3rds of the population condemn suicide bombers...yes, it leaves a heck of a lot who do support same, but more importantly, the majority reject same....The questions is why do they remain silent while the fanatics kill innocents? You know why, they fear what will happen to them if they challenge these ruthless pieces of shi*. If you had a guy living in your neighborhood who would cut your throat, cut your kids throats etc. if you challenged him would you speak up?
Fear can shut up many a man and woman. Many of you will not agree, too bad, my opinion, Again, and trust me, I have no sympathy for anyone who is a Muslim and remains silent...they wear the shame of what the fanatics do everyday with their silence. They create this problem by allowing the clerics to teach this garbage. Until such time the Muslim community cuts this cancer from their neighborhoods and does not just look the other way...they assume the guilt and the innocent blood shed is on their hands as well as their blood thirsty brothers hands.

They are silent just as the Germans were silent in the face of thier fanatics, and the Japanese, the Chinese, the Russians and on and on. It's hard to condemn people who live in fear of their kids getting murdered or their spouses. We've thankfully - God Bless America - never known this sort of fear.
To: Curlyhead
It is hard to condemn them but those Muslims who live in "free" societies and do not fear retaliation from fanatics as compared to those Muslims in the Mid East face....well, they should be condemned loudly and often for making only few token remarks condemning terrorism. They privately scream to locals how bad this makes their religion and community look but other then these private and few token condemnations they do nothing. THEY ARE ONE OF THE CAUSES AS THEY REFUSE TO CLEAN UP THEIR OWN GARBAGE and only fuel the cesspool of terrorism.
