Its current population of 158 million may touch 305 million by 2050

Islamabad: Pakistan is likely to become the world’s fourth most populous country by 2050 with an estimated population of 305 million, according to the World Population Chart issued by a UN agency.

With its current population pegged around 158 million, Pakistan is already ranked sixth in the world. Its growth rate of 2.1 per cent could make it the fourth most populous country behind China, India and Indonesia by 2050, the chart by the United Nations Population Division (UNPD) said on the occasion of World Population Day.

The high annual population growth remains a cause of concern for Pakistan’s government and planners. Officials have identified population as the single most pressing issue. The country’s policy aims at achieving population stabilisation by 2020.

In its report published in Dawn newspaper, the UNPD also expressed concern over the maternal health situation in Pakistan, as the maternal mortality ratio is estimated to be 500 deaths per 100,000 births. Over 75 per cent of deliveries take place at home and skilled personnel attend only about 20 per cent of them.

According to the ministry of population welfare, over one-third of Pakistanis live below the poverty line.

Nice target. Much to lose. Perhaps MAD may work in this situation for a few years.

Defeat in detail.

Yes, surprisingly, the Starship troopers depiction of the ravenous, mindless, insects is a pretty good description of Muslims. Also the Star Trek's depiction of the Borg is so akin to Muslim thought and action, it's scary -- Islam seeks to assimilate and destroy, it does not create anything of its own...

There's a good chance before 2050 there will be a nuclear exchange between Pakistan and India.

True, but the UN is hopeful that their anti-American efforts will have paid off with the destruction of the US by then.

You always read these dire predictions of Muslim overgrowth but they are bull dirt. Muslims are at the limit that their poverty based civilization can support. The only reason they are as high as they are now is the west's support. If anything happens to the world economy so that the West stops propping up these 7th century savages they will die off like flies. There is no way they can reach the population density's that cities with modern sanitation and medicine reach.

In one week, one yeast cell can reach a billion tons of mass given perfect conditions, Islam is about the least perfect condition for human survival.

Reality rarely matches liberal predictions.
