No way. If we entered on the side of Israel, the fallout in the Arab world, including Iraq, would be huge. You think oil prices are high now. Let us fight on behalf of Israel and you will see the world economy go south in a hurry. Israel can take care of itself. It really is Goliath when it comes to taking on its neighbors.
Meanwhile, an active mideast war might be just the impetus required for us to finally go get our own oil for a change.
I totally disagree. We are nearing the end of the poker game and we will either fold or go "all in". When it comes ot supporting Israel, Dubya will support Israel and tell our Arab friends to mind their own business and stay out of the way. The poop is hitting the fan and diplomacy be damned.
Yawn...
Swing a big enough stick and the Middle East will lay down, roll over, pant, beg, and otherwise play nice.
We did Iraq the nice way...very few civilian fatalities from our operations...very little collateral damage.
We did Germany and Japan the other way, and neither nation has ever acted up again.
...and there's no rule that says that a U.S. President in his final years in Office must be nice.
We have options. We can dial in whatever level of violence is deemed best. The rest of the world does not have such options.
We will not allow Israel to be wiped off the earth. Oil be damned.
