Fair enough and good point. The Lebanese are arguably still not 100% sovereign.

However I am not sure if killing Asad would be a terribly good long-term solution.

In addition to setting an unforunate precedent of assassignating regional leaders, the ensuing chaos in Syrai and international condemnation would probably not be in Israel's best short-term interest.

In the long-term Asad might easily be followed by an Islamic regime even more hostile to Israel.

I am honestly beginning to wonder whether Israel might just wish to go back into Gaza and take the rest of Palestine. Drive the Palestinians out. Create a huge buffer zone and annex the whole of biblical Israel. They would be no worse off and then have more land.

I don't see how any regime could possibly be more hostile to Israel.
