These greenies are also evading fuel taxes. Do you suppose that they remember to send in the fuel tax they owe on their homemade refinery products? Don't bet on it!
What about the nutritional aspects of using cooking oil, which is a by-product of the frying of "bad food." Think how many French fries our youth will have to eat, just to supply all the used cooking oil to run the family SUV.
They're not all "greenies." Some are just trying to save money. And some are evading the fuel taxes, while some aren't.
But let there be no doubt, the government doesn't like the potential for tax evasion there, and is, IMO, the real motivation for the pilot project in Oregon (and studies in California and other states) for a per-mile road tax.
That is an odd position for a "conservative" to take.
A biodiesel processor that uses but does not sell commercailyy owes no tax. If it is sold then all use taxes and tarriffs apply but there is a 50 cent reabte pergallon to the processor.
