"I am paying $160 a month for fuel. How about everyone else?"
$375-400/month myself and that doesn't count my wifes car.
So people are entitled to cheap gas then???
I tell people in this bind get a part-time job. I did that for many years and I usaully made an extra 10 grand a year. I know somebody who complains all the time that he has no money. He refuses to take my advice, so he stays struggling. This is the United States, there is opportunity everywhere.
$15 a month
In order to find a house that we could afford that wasn't in a crime-ridden neighborhood and outside the city income tax zone, we had to move about 35 miles outside of town. My wife and I both work in the same area only about seven miles apart so the whole family commutes in every day. We only have one vehicle, but because we have to have three legally mandated child seats, it had to be a vehicle with a third row of seating.
We feel trapped in the situation and would dearly love to not have to spend $500-600 a month in gasoline! Our only option, it would seem is to move back into the city, pay city income tax, and live in a neighborhood that is far less safe for our children to grow up in. Then again, buying another house (or even a different vehicle) seems a pricey affair that isn't likely to recapture much, if any, of that lost income.
Read my response in post #29. I did see it sold there about a decade ago and several years after it was taken off the market in Texas.
Sound bytes don't change the fact that high gas bills hurt lower-income consumers with a cascade of higher prices.
None of the items that you list are of any consequence, ask the government, that's why they don't include them in the inflation #s so just pay for them and be happy that we don't have inflation!
Nobody is entitled to anything including cheap gas. The ramifications of gasoline prices and its effect on the economy and consumer spending is another matter.
I live in Upstate New York. There is opportunity only for the privileged few.
Well move from Upstate New York..

LOL....Okay, I'll just tell my boss I need a $30 an hour raise to keep me as an employee. Afterall, I am an American and I DESERVE the American dream! ;-)
You're in Alaska. You get PAID for oil extracted from our country. Nice to see you don't have to drive. What's your heating bills?
I have a tip on a part-time job that is located in all areas of the country. UPS is always hiring for package handlers (hard work-turnover is high). It pays about 10.00 per hour and FULL insurance benefits that are worth well over another 10 bucks an hour. I did this for 4 years. Opportunity is everywhere if you seek it. If you live in a small city or urban area there is a hub near you.
About five or six hundred for this poor sucker
Thats an easy, glib answer - but it's utterly unworkable. We shouldn't all have to move to South Carolina to make a living.

Just crawl bsck in your NE hole and starve,
That actually isn't a bad idea for the strong and healthy.
