Everyone complains about the price and then they fill up and drive up and down my neighborhood all day and night. Traffic gets worse every single week. The lakes where I go fishing are packed every weekend with boats and jet ski's all being towed by Hummers and Ford Excavations.

Worth repeating.

"Besides, after summer gas prices always fall."

You're far more optimistic than I am.

In the past 3 days, prices here have gone from $2.88 to $3.05. Meanwhile, gas futures are essentially unchanged over the last week. Historically, pump prices have tracked future prices by about a $.60 differential. Now its $.75.

Also in the meantime, ethanol prices have been plummeting. In the past two weeks, they have dropped a full 40%.

US Stockpiles are 15 mb above last year and 30mb above the five year average. Refinery runs and efficiency are above last year and the 5 year average levels. Oil imports are steady with last year. We have more days of stockpile than the 5 year average.... yet prices still climb...

I feel your pain, however, I've parked my Frontier (SC) and got me a used '89 Mazda MX 6 to drive back and forth to work (44 mile round trip each day). My MPG just about doubled since the switch.

My Frontier gets ~ 18 mpg on a good day, the Mazda gets ~ 35 mpg. I drive the Frontier every once in a while when I get tired of putting around town or when I'm going mtn. biking. It used to take ~ $35-40 a week in gas, now I'm putting in about $20 week.

The initial pain in getting a small used econo box will pay for itself in a short while at these prices. I miss not driving my Nissan, but I am getting a whole hell of a lot more enjoyment out of it when I do. It's like driving it for the first time again.

Good luck,

SZ

It just jumped $2.89 to $3.10 in one day here. Must have been, umm, ummm, Chavez' cat puked on his carpet or something. No, supply and demand, that's what I meant. Demand skyrocketed yesterday, I guess.

Just think of the fools who live in CA and FL who have oil off shore and don't let the country drill for it. They could be making a fortune in state revenue and all the ancillary businesses connected to oil exploration. They deserve to pay at least $5/gal. for being energy parasites on Texas, Louisiana, and Alaska, and should be walking or biking to work while admiring their pristine environment.

I'm one of your fools yet I don't remember voting "not" to drill and last time I checked, I don't look like a parasite.

Funny how you compare CA and FL to "parasites" to three states then state the "country" should be drilling off the coasts of CA and FL.

Yeah, we're paying a price, but it's not just CA and FL voters that are stopping the drilling you clown. Look at the Washington politicians who keep blocking the legislation. They're from a lot of different states.

Do you care to divulge your home state so that barbs and idiotic comments in general can be thrown at you? Read my tag line if you need further information.

Ouch...

Based on your username, I'm guessing you live in NYC - but if you are somewhere that you have a yard have you considered installing a geothermal heat pump?

I live in a colder area than NYC and run just a normal natural gas furnace - Gas and Electric combined have never passed $200 a month. A relative in an even colder area with a geothermal pump has lower bills yet (about half as much). That's not a small house, either....

If you're spending $1020 a month for heat and electricity, you might be able to recover the installation cost very quickly. Of course, you can't go installing one in Manhattan...

Not quite. Your casual acqaintance is possibly feeling a need to exaggerate for whatever reason. The Dividend is closer to $1000 or less usually, and not all elect to send in their application. I object to the existence of the PFD as it attracts nonproductive persons to the state.

"It's becoming difficult even to accomplish that."

Well, Judas Priest!!! It's always been difficult since the Garden of Eden!!! Even Jimmah Carter told that grumpy old welfare Queen... "Life is not fair!"

Good Grief!!!

"I live in Upstate New York. There is opportunity only for the privileged few"

That is always the case where socialism is pervalent. Socialism always gives rise to elitism, favorism, and nepotism.
