Life in an Orwellian universe
Jewish World Review ^ | 7-28-06 | Charles Krauthammer

Posted on 07/28/2006 5:33:54 AM PDT by SJackson

Israel's moral scrupulousness is being paid in blood — and yet they're still branded as evil personified

What other country, when attacked in an unprovoked aggression across a recognized international frontier, is then put on a countdown clock by the world, given a limited time window in which to fight back, regardless of whether it has restored its own security?

What other country sustains 1,500 indiscriminate rocket attacks into its cities — every one designed to kill, maim and terrorize civilians — and is then vilified by the world when it tries to destroy the enemy's infrastructure and strongholds with precision-guided munitions that sometimes have the unintended but unavoidable consequence of collateral civilian death and suffering?

Hearing the world pass judgment on the Israel-Hezbollah war as it unfolds is to live in an Orwellian moral universe. With a few significant exceptions (the leadership of the United States, Britain, Australia, Canada and a very few others), the world — governments, the media, U.N. bureaucrats — has completely lost its moral bearings.

Right is wrong and wrong is right. Up is down and down is up. Good is evil and evil is good. Terrorists are freedom fighters and Freedom Fighters are terrorists............There. Now everybody bow down and do obesience to Kofi Annan.........

This is what would happen to us if Kerry became president. What would happen to Israel if it were to rely on the UN for defense?

It is the asymptotic nature of terror.

Koog Lord! What a horrible thought! A Kerry presi-duncey would be a total and unquestionable disaster for US and Israel!.........

Asymptotic means there is no balance. Terror is a weapon used by the much less powerful to make their gains. Osama hits NY and the US has little recourse - Osama is not a state with an army and an infrastructure that can be destroyed. Hezbullah has the luxury of indiscriminately lobbing missiles into Isreal while hiding it's launch cites with human shields - preferably women and children.

The missiles hit a graveyard in Isreal, the IDF takes out an appartment building ... this seems asymptotic

Okay, you mean ASYMETRICAL, asymptotic is a mathematical term about a line that approaches a curve........

Charles hits the nail right on the old head...as usual.

It is surprising to me the degree of anti-Israeli opinion in Europe. Europeans, in general, it seems still hate Jews and now accommodate Arabs.

The world has turned upside down: Action is cheap, while talk is precious. Amazing. Utterly amazing, and disappointing.

The Euroweenies are wussies who want the Arab crocodile to eat them last. Most of this is about jealousy towards Israel and the US for our economic strength, our liberty and our freedoms.

We are crabs in a bucket. The US crawls out of the bucket and instead of everyone else following, the crabs pull the first crab back down.

Maybe ASYMPTOTIC is apropos after all. It is a term in mathematics that refers to a line that approaches a function's curve on a graph, and tends toward zero. The lines may or may not intersect at some point. That is what Hezbuttheads have done. They crossed the line that intersected with the IDF and come up with zero..........

The more asymetric a situation, the more asymptotic the result!? Better cut back on the coffee.

Peace through strength is the only answer. There is no symetry in war. The Iranians, Hezbullah have both stated that it is total war - meaning no lasting ceasefire etc. WWII the biggest worry was for seprate peace(s) - unconditional surrender is what is needed - this could be asymptotic!

Ignore Condeleeza Rice and do the job right no matter what it takes or how long it takes.

"Ignore Condeleeza Rice and do the job right no matter what"

after all her rhetoric about avoiding another phony "peace", she floats another "land-for-peace" scheme (shaba? farms)
