Friedman is very good at telling us what Israel should NOT do. But he hasn't said what he thinks Israel SHOULD do in response to attacks on their homeland

Well, actually Mr Friedman was a big supporter of land for peace. That didn't work out too well. Perhaps if the Israeli's promise to send their first borns to Hizbullah as a sacrifice in perpetuity peace will finally be realized in the Middle East.

Maybe Mr Friedman can get behind that one as well.

GREAT POINT ABOUT CLINTON...

He did have a Yasser fixation.....ugh! blech!

very embarassing to the US IMNSHO.....LOL!

I will say that I get just a little satisfaction out of knowing that Clinton ended up pitching fits and quite upset when Yasser just walked away from the Camp David meetings in July of 2000......LOL!

Clinton was so hoping to be the big shot broker of peace... and Yasser denied him.......

I admit though- I would rather let Clinton have a legacy of brokering the peace than having so many dead civilians and terror attacks.......

the difference between us and the Dems and Terrorists...

we love life, liberty, and Freedom- more than we hate our "enemies" or hunger to destroy the leader of the opposing party......

Why would Wallace want to insert Iraq topic today with Bremer?

Perhaps in response to this week's testimony by the general nominated as commandant of the Marine Corps. He pretty much laid the bad decisions in Bremer's lap---disbanding the Iraqi army and banning Baathists from gov't positions.

I'm late to this thread but you are precisely correct..IMHO.

Excellent summation.
What is it that Jewish people like Friedman don't get?!

Agreed W-Girl! I really liked Gillerman! He was really worth watching on a show that otherwise was a pathetic DNC talking point.

And I believe I heard Israeli UN Ambassador Gillerman say they will release footage of Hezbo rockets coming from civilian neighbor hoods. Anyone else hear that ?

If that can be demonstrated clearly, then Israel will have something on which to quiet this mornings hizzy-fit.

Timmy-Boy is a punk. But I was surprised he let Gillerman talk. The bottom line is that islam has no respect for life so while it's sad when their "innocents" are killed it's the arabs that start the death cycle. They shoot themselves.

islam sucks

Right on Mr. R.

What an idiot. How long will idiots be given unfettered exposure on Meet the Press?

Besides, myself is totally convinced that Friedman is on the payroll of SOMEBODY.

The guy is a Jew for God's sakes! I listened to him and hey, I had a handsome rebuttal for every word he mouthed. Russert did not have the benefit of my wisdom.

:::sigh:::

I think the truth shut Fat tim up for once. It's hard to lie overtly(all the time) when you are confronted over and over with the true words that Gillerman posed to tim.

I'm glad you shared that--more confirmation that Gabler, et al, should be mocked as un-serious Leftists...I don't know why they are treated as real voices on the world stage. (Of course I really DO know; I just can't stand listening to them, tho'.)

In the long view of things what matters is that a world wide jihad has been thrown down by radical Islam and temporary peace treaties are just that, temporary.

I agree with Bush and Blair. This is an opportunity. We now have the pretext to introduce greater Western involvement in the region and to buttress Lebanese democracy. Bush was able to kick the Syrian military out. We can reduce Hezbullah's influence in the south and aid in the rebuilding of Lebanon. I think Hezbullah and Iran made a major miscalculation.

Just as Tet was portrayed as a major defeat for us, the MSM is trying to make this into a defeat for Israel. I don't see it that way. Hezbullah has suffered a major defeat militarily and most of its weapons have been exhausted or destroyed. A Western headed multinational security force will change the calculus in the south. A new, multilateral aid program for Lebanon could solidify the nascent Lebanese democracy and expand the influence of the government. A marker has been laid down to Syria, which now must decide how much support it will continue to give to Hezbullah. This could be a real turning point along with our efforts in Iraq.

Rodguy, may I recommend A.Hun's post #165 for consideration in the awards this week.

Really nice analysis of the big picture that all too many are ignoring or haven't woken up to.

The one thing I would diagree with is the assessment that President Bush knew that the world war with radical Islam was inevitable.  In fact, I believe that the Bush policies during the first administration, when Colin Powell was Secretary of State, were entirely aimed at a last attempt to stave that war off by finding a "middle ground" between all out war and innefectual "police actions."  I believe that failure is why Bush replaced Powell for the second term.

The "This Week" group has decided Maliki is a failure, it is all over in Iraq and that we need to give them a deadline and withdraw, maybe to the Kurdish part of the country. That's all, folks. It's over. The panel has spoken.

It could be an opportunity as long as Israel do not agree due to international pressure to a ceasefire too soon.
