Charlie Crist Let My Daughter Die

by Robert Schindler, Sr. Posted Jul 31, 2006

As most Americans know, on March 31, 2005, my daughter, Terri Schindler Schiavo died of starvation and thirst after having her feeding tube removed by court order. The sad chain of events that concluded with Terri’s death ignited a media firestorm nationally and internationally. What few saw or heard was the callous inaction of aspiring governor Charlie Crist.

Florida Atty. Gen. Charlie Crist let my daughter die. He had it within his authority to save her life, but he turned a blind eye to her suffering. Even worse, he worked to ensure her death.

Terri lived in a neurologically compromised state for reasons that are still unknown, and my family wanted nothing more than permission to care for Terri for the span of her natural life. We were denied.

My daughter tenaciously fought for her life for more than 13 days after being deprived of the most basic, natural and constant need that we all share—the need for nourishment—food and water. Terri was not on a respirator, nor terminally ill. She was not dying, nor succumbing to a dreadful disease. She was disabled. She was dependent on others, but still very much a life, a woman, and a person.

Over the course of several years, our family, our lawyers, and our friends pleaded for help from local, county, and state police and regulatory agencies with constitutional and statutory authority to investigate the many sworn statements of extreme abuse and neglect suffered by our daughter.

Hoping to save my daughter’s life, our family sought the help of Attorney General Charlie Crist. Not only did Charlie Crist refuse our family lawful access to the assets of his office, but he violated his oath of office by actively cooperated with those in positions of political and judicial authority whom denied us legal access to the police and regulatory systems meant to protect the weak. Multiple sworn agents from responsible police and regulatory agencies who found probable cause to investigate allegations of abuse in Terri's judicial and physical care, were ordered to shut down those probes. This heavy-handedness made us powerless.

Information of direct interest to Attorney General Charlie Crist's office was directly delivered to his personal hands, and he refused to properly execute the duties of his office. And it was with deliberate decision that he failed to attend a scheduled Tallahassee meeting with our family. On another occasion, we approached each other by chance. Upon recognizing me, Charlie Crist abruptly stopped and walked away.

That callous action encapsulates Charlie Crist. He walked away from a man whose daughter’s fate he controlled. At that moment, he turned his back on Terri. And he turned his back on the most fundamental duties of his office.

It is quite clear that Charlie Crist, to this day, has demonstrated no public affection for the cause of life, or Christianity, or any set of core values. He has been posturing to become governor for decades. With each voting audience he has crafted a message based on the expediency of the moment.

To add insult to injury, at a recent banquet, our alleged pro-life candidate for the Governor of Florida said the following about Judge George Greer and other judges involved in the death of my daughter, "You are heroes to all of us, and your defense of the judiciary and what is right is beyond admirable."

Through his actions, Charlie Crist has demonstrated that he has no regard for our most vulnerable citizens, the high duties of public office, or life itself. Charlie Crist’s celebration of the merciless judges who condemned Terri to death speaks to his true character.

We hear from Pamela Hennessy...

Following the death of Terri Schiavo in Florida, the media and press tried their hands at acting in the role of advertising gurus by insisting that Terri's fate would not be yours ... if only you had a living will.

In what I find to be the most irresponsible, poorly researched and ham-handed display of poor journalism in my recent memory, columnists went to great lengths to convince the American public that a living will was the end-all, be-all answer to the problems of complicated medical decisions or end-of-life dilemmas.

To put it as politely as I can possibly manage, that's a load of rubbish.

>> Mikey Schiavo who has attached his actions to kill Terri along with other issues of the far left

Yes. It's his main alibi now. Once you instruct the Left that this is an ISSUE, they will chant slogans till the end of time and never THINK about it again.

Wife-killing is a fine leftist issue. The Left has no objection to murder unless one of them is personally inconvenienced. They simply say it's a private matter (which is what Felos did, btw). Then it is covered by the non-existent Privacy Clause of the Silly Putty Constitution, and every judge in the country will back them on the point.

For those who need the warning, satire from Unconfirmedsources...

Unconfirmed sources report that Jeb Bush in an attempt to deflect attention from the autopsy findings in the Schiavo case has launched an investigation into the death of Abe Lincoln and Terri Schiavo. The two cases, while not formally linked by authorities, are very similar in the mind of Governor Bush and need to be carefully investigated. Bush has ordered all Florida law enforcement personal to aggressively investigate these important cases.

All of the doctors (even the ones who advocated killing her) agreed that she was alive. They didn't all agree on how much she interacted with her environment, but they all agreed that she interacted on a level that was inconsistent with the medical community's established criteria for PVS, as well as Florida's legal definition of PVS. One of michael's hand-picked doctors admitted that he had his own private definition of PVS, which would include the majority of people with traumatic brain injuries. Even he admitted that Terri interacted with her environment.

Then we have the self-proclaimed experts, who claim that anyone who requires food and water is not only PVS, but dead.

>> But Lamont led among those with college degrees, those making more than $50,000, and liberals. He also led among men; women split evenly.

I find this VERY strange. Men are usually much more hawkish. Does the Connecticut Democratic Party attract hordes of metrosexuals?

Haleigh Poutre Update...

What gives me the greatest concern in the saga of poor Haleigh is that she may fade from the limelight, and into the control of the nefarious who shy away when the light is shining.

The case drew national attention as state officials sought to have Haleigh removed from life support and as the comatose girl became the focus of a right-to-die debate.

``It upsets me that he's walking around free on bail," Avrett said after Strickland was ordered to return to court Sept. 29. Judge Tina Page kept his bail at $5,000 after he denied the six assault and battery charges.

I visited my son a few times when he was stationed in Connecticut. (Check spelling of Connecticut. Okay, no Freudian slips this time.) It looked to me like the men and the women were taking each other's hormone pills. It was not a pretty picture.

Ping to a wagglebee thread on another dehydration case...

“The whole of my husband’s stay in hospital was a nightmare,” Kate Speed said, according to the Times Online. “They put bronchopneumonia on the death certificate, but I believe his death was from the effects of dehydration.”

The hospital’s Kimberly ward is already under investigation by Norwich coroner William Armstrong after the death a Mrs. Olive Nockels who died at the hospital in 2003 and whose family alleges that she was dehydrated to death. According to the Times Online, physician David Maisley testified last month at the inquest into Mrs. Nockel’s death that he witnessed people die of dehydration at the hospital “all the time—two or three times a week.”

But following a battle between the DSS and Strickland Haleigh began breathing on her own and responding to questions and was admitted to Franciscan Hospital.

I keep seeing this repeated in various stories, but as I recall, she began responding before DSS obtained permission to kill her. When that information got wide media coverage, they agreed to hold off for a year, and then decide whether or not to kill her. Anybody remember when the year is up?

My guess it the year will be up right away if Haleigh drops far enough from public scrutiny so they can continue their deeds in the shadows. I am cynical enough these days to harbor no doubt they will continue if they can. That is why even this news item about the stepfather helps keep the light turned on.

Has anyone found out why they isolated her from her mother again? Last time they did that was when they tried to kill her. Is she allowed to have any visitors that don't want her dead?

>> she began responding before DSS obtained permission to kill her

Correct -- and the implications are absolutely scandalous. The DSS was so anxious to kill her, they hushed up her signs of recovery. In THEIR eyes, Haleigh must have been a perfect candidate for for-profit organ harvest. The child had no one to take care of her, she'd been battered, she was a burden on the state -- just right to snuff for a six-figure profit. The fact that even now the DSS won't let Haleigh's mother have normal visitation is troubling, to say the least.

>> Anybody remember when the year is up?

I didn't hear the "one year" clause (and hope it either isn't so or has been discarded). We had tuned in by December because I sent Haleigh a Christmas card :-) She had been hospitalized awhile, as I recall -- I think from September.

Time to start writing Governor Mitt Romney, isn't it.

I don't know. He looks kind of busy.

ROMNEY SIGNS BILL MAKING BASKETBALL THE OFFICIAL SPORT

August 8 – Governor Mitt Romney today signed legislation initiated by a group of elementary school students recognizing basketball as the “Official Sport of the Commonwealth.” Massachusetts is the birthplace of basketball and home to the sport’s National Hall of Fame in Springfield.

“The game of basketball was invented here and has an important place in Massachusetts history,” said Romney. “I’m proud of these young students, and proud the great game of basketball comes from here.”

No clue, but even before this, the mother was on an extremely short leash -- 15 minutes visitation every second week, or something like that. I wish we were in contact with the attorney, Wendy Murphy. (I got the impression that Murphy is also muzzled by the DSS, but she might be able to tell us how we could help.) Do we have a lawyer handy who could look up her address or phone or e-mail?

Basketball is far more important than administrative duties, BB, but it IS seasonal. Mitt oughtn't spend more than eight months a year on basketball. We'll just have to find the window.

Btw, it is no big deal that basketball is the state sport in MA. Back home again in Indiana, basketball, AKA "Hoosier Hysteria," is virtually the state religion.
