Castro has tumor, Brazilian newspaper says

SAO PAULO, Brazil (Reuters) - Cuban authorities have told the Brazilian government that Cuban leader Fidel Castro has a malignant stomach tumor and may be unable to return to full power, a Brazilian newspaper reported on Saturday. Folha de S.Paulo said Brazilian officials had been told that Castro's illness marked the start of an irreversible transfer of power on the Communist-ruled island.

Folha said Cuban authorities informed Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and members of the ruling Workers' Party about the malignant stomach tumor this week. His condition was worse than has been publicly admitted, according to Folha.

"It looks like we will lose our friend," it quoted Lula as telling an aide.

It gave no source but the report was written by a respected journalist. Brazilian officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Castro, 79, relinquished power temporarily last Monday to his younger brother, Raul, after intestinal surgery. ADVERTISEMENT

Few details of his state of health have emerged, triggering uncertainty about Cuba's future and speculation that his 47-year-old rule over Cuba could be drawing to a close.

Cuban Cabinet ministers have said the Fidel Castro was recovering.

But Folha said the Brazilian authorities had been informed that even if Castro recovered, he might not be able to assume full power again.

Lula had instructed his team to be discreet, it said. He told friends Castro was a strong man who has been a friend in "difficult hours." He hoped for his recovery.

The two men are old friends and the Workers' Party has longstanding ties to Cuba, although Lula has moved the party away from its leftist roots and toward the political center.

Lula has visited Cuba several times, most recently as president in 2003.

May the servant of Marx/Lenin have a long and agonizing end. If not here, then we all know where.

We were passing through the hot, sleepy town of Starke, Florida and stopped at a local cafe for breakfast.

Starke is the site of Florida State Prison which was where the arch-murderer Ted Bundy was executed.

Bundy had been executed the day before. After the usual corny jokes to the waitress asking her if the lights in Starke had dimmed at the time of the execution, she said the folks in the little town were actually dancing in the streets at the moment of payback.

Bundy was articulate and handsome. Castro was imposing and attractively macho during his prime. Both were serial killers and evil incarnate.

Dancing in the streets is permitted when sparks of evil on this earth are extinguished forever.

Actually, I was thinking we could send Teddy down there and, once he was there, announce that we did so to honor JFK and the Bay of Pigs invasion force ....

Are you sure that these Brazilians aren't mistaking Castro's head up his ass for a tumor?

Man, Nathan, and I thought I was a bit harsh.
I do agree though.

According to a report in the UK Telegraph, Castro is receiving the best treatment in the world.

Typical of dictators - the best for them and the little people can suffer.

To paraphrase the movie Pulp Fiction:

I hope he spends the rest of his short ass life in excruciating pain.

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe we should tone it down a little.

Go for it. Start your own bleeding-heart , ignore the real vicitims, pine for the homidical dictator thread. Good luck. I hope he dies in great pain and suffers eternally in a fiery Hell. And I'll sleep well tonight with my mean-spirited self.

I'm not ignoring the real victims. I'm watching my own blood pressure.

The guy's going to die one day or another. I really don't care how he goes.

Obviously you are a product of the public education system. You didn't comprehend where I said I made a joke about people who had died through their own stupidity or the stupidity of those around them or both. I did not call for the death of anyone! Why is it that you can't see that!

Too bad the families of his victims can't go "medieval on his a@@." (Of course it appears that is exactly what the cancer is doing, anyway).

Perhaps because your writing is so muddled and incomprehensible?

I am somewht disturbed at the general wish of malevolence on this thread. His death certainly is just, and he certainly must face the judgment on his murderous ways and the way he has ruined the lives of mny cuban citizens. But to wish pain and suffering, while ultimately appeals to our imperfect side is an affront to God.

I completely agree. It certainly isn't for us to tell God what to do, and there was surely a reason why Castro has been visited on the world and Cuba. I never understood why the Cuban people had to be treated worse than Pharoah in Exodus. I guess that isn't our place to know.

Nevertheless, we can pray that God will keep his eye on Castro and take him to his appointment with the process of sifting the hearts of men before his judgement seat...and ASAP. For the world will be a better place when Castro moves on to his final reward.
