Kidman condemns Hamas, Hezbollah
Herald Sun ^ | 17 August 2006

NICOLE Kidman has made a public stand against terrorism.

The actress, joined by 84 other high-profile Hollywood stars, directors, studio bosses and media moguls, has taken out a powerfully-worded full page advertisement in today's Los Angeles Times newspaper.

It specifically targets "terrorist organisations" such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Palestine.

"We the undersigned are pained and devastated by the civilian casualties in Israel and Lebanon caused by terrorist actions initiated by terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah and Hamas," the ad reads.

"If we do not succeed in stopping terrorism around the world, chaos will rule and innocent people will continue to die.

"We need to support democratic societies and stop terrorism at all costs."

A who's who of Hollywood heavyweights joined Kidman on the ad.

The actors listed included: Michael Douglas, Dennis Hopper, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Danny De Vito, Don Johnson, James Woods, Kelly Preston, Patricia Heaton and William Hurt.

Directors Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Michael Mann, Dick Donner and Sam Raimi also signed their names.

Other Hollywood powerplayers supporting the ad included Sumner Redstone, the chairman and majority owner of Paramount Pictures, and billionaire mogul, Haim Saban.

Well I guess it's all over Kidman said so.

Why take a whiz on a good deed? What's she supposed to do, become a Navy Seal?

I suppose it's good to see a few of them come to their senses, but I didn't much care what they thought before or after this announcement. Hopefully they will influence some people if they speak individually about it in public ad infinitum the way those opposing their position do.

It also depends on what they think should be done about terrorism. If their solution is to "talk" to terrorists and ask them to behave, I fail to see this as a big boon to the cause.

"Come here Mr. Douglas. We won't hurt you. Here, be nice and put on this nice jacket we got for you! It's from CZJ! Sure the sleeves are a bit too long, but it's the fashion these days. Yes, it is odd that you put it on backward, but you know those crazy, crazy designers! Ha, ha! Good boy. Quick, lace it up and get him into the van. Psych ward, pronto. Don't let this leak to the media."

"We need to support democratic societies and stop terrorism at all costs."

Do they understand what they're saying? So how about some pro-American movies, then, a-la John Wayne during WWII??

And it's a refreshing contrast to the recent "statements" of idiots such as Patti Smith.

You can't please some people. This may be the only "contribution" they can make by being public.

After Scott's horrible movie supporting muslims...his signature really really surprises me.

According to a bunch of folks on this thread, actors don't matter or are only doing this to win favor with Da Jooooz who head up studios and finance movies. I wonder if they would have said that about The Duke if we'd had FR back then.

Ridley Scott? His movie, 'Kingdom of Heaven' basically trashes Christians and makes the Muslims out to be noble.

Well, its always my hope that when people like Kidman, Willis, et al do this, it means that they are getting just as fed up as we are. I havent ever heard Kidman badmouth America to foreign press...have actually been pleasantly surprised that some Aussie actors have at least been supportive of the efforts going on in the Middle East, if nothing more than for their own country's efforts. I was watching an "Inside the Actors Studio" for Russell Crowe, and the first words out of his mouth to an American audience were "God bless America, God bless our troops [sic], and God save the Queen." God bless Mr. Crowe, I say! So maybe they might have differing opinions about how things should go, but theyve at least come out and said they recognize that its about more than them. I think that should be lauded.

I've always liked Nicole Kidman, and not just because of how she looks when she forgets to put something on before stepping in front of a camera. ;-)

Not only that, but I give credence to a cabal of actors about as much as I would give a convention of hairdressers. Their opinions mean nothing to me. They're a-c-t-o-r-s, for God's sake. They make their livings pretending.

O Glorious One, what job does a person have to hold before their contribution to the war on terror gets your exalted blessing?

A good many of those Leftists ARE of Jewish extraction - explain that...and then explain what conclusion we are supposed to surmise from your statements.

Sure, I'll explain it. Many Jews are liberal and many Jews are against the WOT as waged by the Bush Administration. Case closed. Take Barbra Streisand for example.

The fact that a number of Hollywood liberal elites and some Jews have signed on to this means nothing, other than those in power (in Hollywood) may feel the state of Israel is vulnerable and have engaged their community to speak out.'

This means NOTHING in regard to the broader war on terror. None of these people are necessarily changing their viewpoint on the WOT (including those few who have supported that war from the beginning). This is a specific statement for a specific situation.

I would have been ecstatic had Israel pushed their incursion into Lebanon and destroyed Hezbollah. Period! But that didn't happen. Now we have to deal with the aftermath. That's Israel's fault (the government). What these people say at this time is symbolic and meaningless. It's nothing to become excited about, nor nothing in which to find hope.

Never saw that movie. Maybe Michael Douglas needed the work or did it as a favor

Save your money. Don't rent it. Martin Sheen is in it, as the advisor and best friend of the president. Just having Sheen in the movie right away makes it disgusting. But the final dramatic moment is when the demonrat president (Douglas) holds a press conference to rant about the glory of the ACLU and the evilness of his antogonist, a Repub senator or congressman, I forget which.

I was forced to sit through the movie, but I wasn't able to keep my mouth shut while I was watching it.

Did you have Growly burgers for dinner and forget your glasses? I didn't write the first post that you wrote to me to reply to.

Re this: (from me) Note the Aussie paper makes them sound like they are freedom fighters in uniform on the front lines:

BS. The article says they ran an ad, and "targets" is a political, marketing and medical term as well as a military one. You are allowing something to color your perception of the text.

No bs at all. I was correct in what I wrote.
