I knew exactly what you meant when you asked. I've gotten that question quite a bit over the years.

Even though I graduated from the University of Delaware, my roommate during those times was originally from Miami also (Palmetto Sr. High graduate). In addition, my uncle lived in Hialeah at the time. It wasn't quite as bad there, but it was bad enough, so I know how it affected folks down there. They've since moved to North Carolina (inland, of course).

I took the wife and kids to the Keys a couple years ago, and Homestead still isn't what used to be. It's so erie to see the devastation still even after so many years have passed.

Palmetto Sr High isn't too far from here, several miles north is all. It serves the kids from our neighborhood which is about the southern limit for its census.

In any case, Go Miami!
