LONDON -(Dow Jones)- A Romanian oil services company has filed protests to Iran's oil and defense ministry after its rig in Iranian waters came under fire from an Iranian military warship and was later occupied by Iranian troops, a spokesman for the Romanian operator said Tuesday.
An Iranian official said Romania's Grup Servicii Petroliere, or GSP, had failed to follow contractual procedures.
Sounds like there's some sort of wrangle about the ownership and lease of the rig. I remember Iranians in my dorm, before the fall of the Shah. They were assholes then, they are assholes now. They have to be the hardest bunch of assholes in the world to deal with. Anybody doing business with the Iranians is asking for trouble.
I've been trying to find further info in maritime law on where international waters start. If I remember correctly, here in the US, international waters starts 5 miles from land. Wouldn't this be the same for all countries?
