Here I am in the middle of one of the largest pine forests in north America - Hot Springs Arkansas - where "lumber is king".
When I built my wife her potting shed/hobby room, all the wood (all pine) bought here locally was marked ... Product of CANADA!
Something is W R O N G with this picture.

All of the impacted provinces are now on board with this deal; including, most importantly to the Parliamentary vote on same, Quebec.
Ergo, with the Bloc not about to go against la belle Province's expressed wishes, the ball is now effectively in the creek with respect to Harper obtaining a positive outcome.
All that's left for the Libs & NDP to do is whine & further alienate the public by demonstrating that they have no workable alternative polices of their own & prefer pointless partisan acrimony to doing what's best for the country.
Plus, if the Liberals end up divided on the vote, their open disunity will be just that much additional gravy for Harper & Co.

IIRC, Northern species, like SPF (spruce, pine, fir), are slow growing with tight rings and less twisting in the finished products, i.e. 2x4 and 2x6.
Lumber yards like that quality and if there is no really big price difference, so do builders.
From my somewhat limited personal experience, I would say the very best framing lumber in NA comes from the smaller and slower growing trees around Prince George, B.C.
