Is gay marriage also culturally conservative?

If you were familiar with the politics of the state you're discussing, you'd know the chief opposition comes within the city of Boston, while its support is greatest in the suburbs.

How about if I call your ancestors traitors who should be hung or shot? Sherman should have burned and killed them all?

I think that problem is indistinguishable from telling other people--many of them Southerners, although you wouldn't know it from how that term is used by some--that their ancestors should have stayed in slavery, been subject to rape and beating and having their families split up to make a dollar, and that their complaining about it shows how ungrateful they are for what their upstanding neighbors did for them.

btw, i note that "the nameless shunned one" has posted something to both you & me in #46.

i am not ignoring you, but i neither read nor respond to anything the HATER/LIAR/FOOL posts & haven't in close to 2 years. when he was demonstrated that he was UNABLE to tell the difference in a BOOK REVIEW & the BOOK itself, i was "DONE with him", permanently.

i have no idea what he posted & don't care, but i assume it was some combination or IGNORANT, HATEFUL, FALSE and/or STUPID.

just thought you'd want to know.

I think there must be a, "Southern Hate Club," and they dispatch their mealy-mouthed, riot inciters, when Southerners that are aware of their insidious little tricks, speak up. That seems to be #1 on their agenda. "Keep all the people as dumb as a box of rocks so we can continue our destructive game". I'm sick and tired of those little peabrains and I have every intention of exposing their idiocy and lunatic behaviors. Lincoln may have forced his hateful little self on the South, but he don't fool me one bit. If people would simply look at the fact that during Lincoln's entire tenure as President, he was at war, and he warred AGAINST his own country...

What Watie's referring to is about the 24th time that I showed him up as a liar and fabricator on these threads. He'd made a claim that there was a U-Boat on display in a Galveston park that had been captured by privateers commissioned by the state of Texas during WW2. When even the Lost Causers told him that he was wrong on that one, he furiously backpedaled, trying to lay the blame on a book that he'd read, "Yachts Against Subs", by L.B.N.Gnaedinger. This book, he said, was available at the University of Houston library.

The problem is that no trace of such a book exists. The online catalog of the University of Houston library doesn't list it. The Library of Congress doesn't list it. The combined university library database doesn't list it. It doesn't appear on any used book listing like ABEbooks or Bibliofind.

What you can find is a listing for a magazine article in "Motor Boating and Sailing", Dec. 1970 issue entitled "Picket Patrol: Yachts Against Subs" by, yes, LBN Gnaedinger. The local public library near my office had bound volumes of the magazine and I photocopied the article. It's a nice little piece about the USCG Auxilliary patrolling off the east coast. But it isn't a book review. Watie's last ditch effort to save face was to maintain his claim that the article was a book review while "shunning" me.

I don't have access to a scanner to put the article up, but anyone who wants to freepmail me with a fax number, I'll be happy to send a copy of the article.

Watie's also claimed that a book entitled "The Annals of Old Missouri" lists the crimes of each and every victims of Quantrill's raid on Lawrence, proving that they all "had it coming." There's no sign of that book anywhere, either.

On the other hand, Watie's oft-cited "Blacks in Blue and Gray" does exist and is easily found. The problem there is that it doesn't say what Watie says it does, and isn't written by history professor at Tuskegee, as Watie claims it was.

Yes. I can understand that. But, you must also understand that I am not criticizing you at all, for I never posted directly to you. Besides, it is totally counter-productive to make it a point to personally offend folks. It is the overall sense of, "me first" that is offensive in your state, as in many other New England states. For it was the intolerance of the ridiculous, that made it so whatever the Northern states would have no part of, was dumped on the South. And, yes, your state started out with an incredible status, which was quite honorable. But due to the selfishness encouraged during the Lincoln Administration, it has drifted quite far from that status.

Anyway, I am from Arizona, and I'd be among the first to tell of our state's sorry status. Our govenor has lost her mind, as have our legislators. Not to mention, Insane McCain. And look at the sorry status of our borders. But that's the feds' fault. They should build us a wall. The Great Wall of China didn't have very many folks travel over it. And those that were dumb enough to do so, didn't get very far. But Bush is so dern hung-up on open borders with the criminally infested Mexico, he can't even see straight...

Well I really and truly hope so. They are so infested with criminals, it's not even funny. Even though the Democratic party deserves to float off into oblivion, I doubt that they will. However, for the next 20 years or so, they need to be banned from the Presidency. And all other political offices that are not speaking up and condeming the crazies. But, maybe the Independent party will be as the Whigs, back when. Just in the spotlight until the discombobulated democrats clean house and get rid of the rats and other infestations. Who knows...

The funny part is that in many ways, Boston is a culturally conservative city.

How quickly we forget. A few decades ago, Boston, owing largely to its Catholic influence, had the toughest censors in the country -- posters for racy books and movies were splashed with "BANNED IN BOSTON!" for marketing elsewhere.

If people would simply look at the fact that during Lincoln's entire tenure as President, he was at war, and he warred AGAINST his own country...

But if the south seceded, it wasn't his own country, was it. Again you're trying to have your cake and secede from it, too.

By the way, I'm still waiting for you to tell us what black cemetery was discovered in New York that shows Lincoln in a bad light as you claimed. The African Burial Ground discovered in 1991 was closed in 1795, more than a decade before Lincoln was born.

I normally try to avoid vanity press books, but this one looks like it might be amusing. But my god, what an awful title. It's like someone said, "What's it about?" and the author said, "It's about General Lee's daughter Annie and what became of her during the Civil War...say, I'll use that as the title!"

You may be right. They have an aversion for the truth, and play bait and switch all day long. And I really would like to see them pay for their idiocy by just dissappearing. They have become such a shameful disgrace to our nation. They should just, "dry up and blow away"...

Yeah, it's crazy. With the divide between county and city government in most parts of the country, and the lack of zoning specifically in Houston, you get "anything goes" zones right in the middle of downtown and near families where all manner of "media" and "personal services", legal or illegal, are for sale. This is a family web site so I won't repeat the specifics.

You just don't see that up here. Part of it is a reflection on zoning, but we do seem to have a more conservative culture in SOME ways with lower rates of young divorces and multiple marriages and teen pregnancy and much less public flaunting of private details like that. People don't talk about what church they go to, if they go to at all, but maybe it's because they have less of a sense of the moral world falling about their ears like you get in other parts of the country.

I get the sense the Midwest is the same way. A lot of people here vote for Kerry and Kennedy because of union issues and because their families have always been Democrats. It's also historically been a Catholic thing.

But I get a big laugh when people from the South claim that Boston is the new Sodom and Gomorrah just because our Court gave us homosexual marriage and everyone votes Democrat. It doesn't get any racier here than "Cheers!"
