the kid has obviously gone mental and lives in a fantasy world of her own creation . Stockholm Syndrome

No, she's done the best she can to cope with the only life she's ever known, and now everything is unfamiliar and full of new pressures. Starting a new life is stressful even under good conditions. Putting a label on it doesn't make it go away. Give her time.

If she identifies so much with him, WHY DID SHE RUN? Her statements don't match up with her actions.

Sure they do. She said it very artfully. ""To give you a metaphor - he carried me in his arms but also trampled me underfoot." Don't you get that? Relationships with abusers are constant mind games. Carrot, stick, carrot, stick. You can know it's not right and still feel conflicted about it. Why do you think women stay with men who abuse them? Till one day they decide they've had enough.

Does anyone other than me think that somehow a defective gene must have made it into the brains of all Europeans sometime after the European Americans emigrated to America?

Why do you say that?

When we are exposed to anything, over a long period of time, we begin to see it as normal.

Which sure explains a lot of what's happening in and to our society today.

Dewitt is no slouch community either. It's not in the city, it's a really nice suburb.

My grandmother left the old country as about a 20 year old to avoid an arranged marriage to an *old* (40's, on deaths door over there) man. No wimp was she.

My grandfather stowed away on the ship to avoid being consripted into a neighboring country's army.

It hasn't been long enough for the strong-willedness to have been bred out yet. And I think of all those pioneeers. What guts.

Ditto.
The media being what it is,there is little chance of our "hopes" being answered, I'm afraid.

Unless "we", the target audience of the "media" all pointedly ignore the hype and speculation, while continuing to pray for the young woman, and her family...

Out of simple human respect for another's right to privacy.
