PKK bomb explodes in truck, 2 terrorists captured
Hurriyet: Two PKK terrorists who had reportedly left their training camp in Northern Iraq to come to Istanbul and carry out an attack were caught by police when a bomb they tried to throw at police instead exploded in their truck. Mehmet Zahit Sahin and Ramazan Ceber left the Istanbul neighborhood of Umraniye on September 6, followed by a team of Turkish intelligence agents.

When the two terrorists realized they were being followed in Esenyurt, they first fired on the security forces, and then tried to throw a bomb from their truck towards the police. The two men were captured shortly afterwards in an operation which also netted a variety of firearms. Both men also admitted during questioning that they had been involved in the August attacks in Istanbul against the Esenyurt AKP building and the Bagcilar municipality building.

PLA Maneuvers with Intervention to N. Korea in Mind?

09/11/06

China's PLA is reportedly conducting training exercises designed to cope with crisis in Korean Peninsula

Chinese state media, Xinhua, reported, "Total of 6,000 troops, made up of mechanized infantry brigade(3,000) from Shenyang Military District and its opponents(3,000), an armored brigade from Beijing Military District, went into training exercises against biochemical, naval, and aerial attacks. It started on Sept. 5 on a training base under Beijing Military District, located on a steppe in Inner Mongolia."

190th Mechanized Infantry Brigade of 39th Corps under Shenyang Military District finished map exercises on Sept. 5, and departed its base at Benxi in Liaoliang Province on Sept. 6, and covered 1,000 km(over 620 miles) to reach the training base, the first long-distance maneuver in (PLA's ?) history. The exercises will last until Sept. 15,

While moving, they also underwent training to evade enemy satellite surveillance and deal with electromagnetic disturbances. Shenyang Military District is one of seven military districts of PLA. Its headquarter is located in Shenyang, and it is assigned to deal with situations which could develop in Korean Peninsula.

In addition to the development above, a rapid deployment unit from 162th Division under Jinan Military District is also reportedly starting yet another exercise with the scenario of intervention in Korea. Jinan Military District has its headquarter in Jinan, Shandong Province. It is responsible for dealing with situations in Japan and Korean Peninsula. Beijing's military sources are paying keen attention to these exercises which are conducted in the backdrop of tense Korean situation caused by 6-party talks in stalemate, N. Korean missile launches, and warning against nuclear test.

In another dispatch from the same newspaper, it reported the coverage of Inner Mongolia exercises by reporters from Xinhua. Apparently, this is a highly publicized event, where reporters are embedded with the troops, travel together, and file reports along the way. So Chinese government wants everybody to know about this event. Maybe one of their intended audience is Kim Jong-il.
It was Hong Kong's Information Center for Chinese Human Right and Democracy Movement which said that these exercises are for potential intervention in Korean Peninsula.
