Good post. It's a shame he didn't came out of his monastery and spread the Good News. He had a great testimony to help others.

The bible has a hint of monasticism in the widow who lived in the temple and prayed constantly. But she wasn't too busy to take notice of the baby Jesus.

He spread the Good News in his writings and by his example of life. He was quite famous when he died. There is a movement underway to have him declared a saint. After he died his body was said to remain incorrupt despite not being embalmed and being exposed for many days before burial. Miracles have been attributed to his intercession. Also the monastery he founded is still there in the wilderness of N. California and many people go there for spiritual retreats.

Some of his writings include- God's Revelation to the Human Heart, Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future, and The Soul After Death. He also wrote many articles some of which can be found online.

Monastics like him resolve to help the world through prayer. If one has faith in the efficacy of prayer, then one can see how their calling is as important as that of the active religious.
