New poll says most Canadians blame U.S. for 9/11 attacks

A majority of Canadians believe U.S. foreign policy was one of the root causes that led to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, and Quebecers are quicker to criticize the U.S. administration for its international actions than other Canadians, a recent poll suggests.

Those conclusions are found in a newly released poll conducted by Léger Marketing for the Association for Canadian Studies.

The poll suggests that 77 per cent of Quebecers polled primarily blame American foreign policy for the Sept. 11 attacks. The results suggest 57 per cent in Ontario hold a similar view.

Canadian opinions have hardened against the United States and its role on the world stage, said Jack Jedwab, executive director of the Association for Canadian Studies. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have contributed to a change of heart among people, he said.

Does anyone know what specific policies prior to 2001 we had that canadians say caused the attacks?

The Canadian answers to the poll are most likely due to their knee-jerk envy of America but it is certainly true that U.S. actions led to the attack.

Al Qaeda makes no bones about the fact that having "infidels" on their "sacred Saudi soil" was enough reason to wage war against America.

America defended the Persian Gulf states (and the vital oil that allows the European nations and Canada to survive as First World countries) against Iraqi conquest and that required maintaining armed forces on the ground in Saudi Arabia.

If America had assumed the role of a defense parasite, as Canada has done since World War II, some other nation would have had to assume the responsibility of ensuring that 70% of the world's known oil reserves were not controlled by a hostile despot and that other nation, and not America, would have been attacked by the al Qaeda religious fanatics.

The best way to avoid attack is to make yourself totally irrelevant so that your potential enemy does not even notice that you exist.

That is the Canadian post-World War II policy for conflict avoidance and it has been very successful for Canada.

Happy too, then they would accuse us of being isolationists.

You might recall it only took a nano second after the deaths in the tsunami for us to be accused of not helping enough.

Simpy being somewhere is not enough to kill thousands of people, Canadians are there as well and not attacked.

Polybius,
The biggest problem w/ the results of this canadian poll is that the majority (highest % being quebecers) made the choice to pick the USA as being the PRIMARY reason for 9-11 OVER picking the muzzie hijacking terroristic murders. And when given the option of picking more than one reason 1/3 picked Israel over the islami fundamentalists.

And here is another poll w/ even a dumber result:
One in five believes in conspiracy
http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=a4a797bf-067d-47e5-bc13-91cf59b1c79d&k=27239
From the link:
"More than one in five Canadians believe the events of Sept. 11, 2001, were orchestrated not by al-Qaeda terrorists but by Americans looking for a pretext for war in Iraq, according to a new poll."

Yeah, right. Like GWB & co would be able to pull that off in the 1st place & in the 2nd not have a single individual (& think about just how many people it would take to pull that off on 9-11) in these 5 yrs has ratted them out. Granted these poll results don't show a majority of canadians believe this BS but STILL 22% did. Even if they (those 22%) didn't come up w/ the BS theory on their own they are awful gullible. I wonder what % think the Moon landing was faked. Now that was a dumb theory but, IMHO, not as dumb as this 9-11 theory.

Even though I think the theory of a USA 9-11 conspiracy theory is idiotic that is NOT to say I don't think that MANY in our govt certainly were & ARE trying to take advantage of those events to get things done that they've wanted to do for a long time but in a pre-9-11 society those things didn't stand a chance of getting accomplished. That type of thing happens frequently (in the USA as well as MANY other countries)...taking advantage of tragedy. Just like right now the feds wanting ISPs to do data retention for 2 yrs & using the tragedy of child pornography as the excuse to invade civil liberties (as well as being hugely financially detrimental to small ISP's).

And before anybody says it I KNOW that the USA, in addition to other countries, have similar idiots as those 22% in that canadian poll. However, this thread is about canadian perceptions of 9/11.

BTW, Peter St. John of winnipeg said in the linked article that "these theories are fun" has, IMHO, a strange/sick sense of humor to think this type of theory is "fun".

GMMAC & Fair Go,
Oh, I see. I refute your argument & the best you can come up w/ in response it to make an accusation against me of being a "troll" & a "moral relativist".
Okay. :\ I'm NOT a troll. I AM honest when stating my beliefs/opinions. I don't kow-tow to a "party line". IOW, I'm not a fideist to a "party line".

sit-rep, Idaho Whacko & Larry Lucido,
There is always this as a solution for "that problem":
Penis transplant reported in China

Given the msm has come up with very similar polling "results" Stateside, the primary reason this thread has gone on this long is that it's provided yet another opportunity for FR's small but vocal contingent of knuckle-dragging xenophobes to bash ALL Canadians.

Although legitimate patriots seemingly wouldn't make a routine practice of vilifying & disparaging their nation's friends & allies?

BTW & IMHO, the only thing worse than a moronic, vulgar, know-it-all newbie is an unduly verbose moronic, vulgar, know-it-all newbie.

Perhaps look around FR a bit and see how many other rambling diatribes like your posts on this thread you're able to find?

As I said before, this poll was worded idiotically. Logically, only 100% of those polled can blame something as the PRIMARY reason for something to happen. In this poll, because of how all the responses were worded, 165% of those Canadians polled blamed U.S. foreign policy, Israel or Islamic fundamentalists as the primary reason for 9/11. That doesn't make sense.

More Canadians blamed Islamic fundamentalists than U.S. foreign policy, by the way. But shhhh! The CMSM doesn't want you to know that, since it's not controversial.

Whatever is the logic in repeatedly attacking people who have goodwill towards the US and are fully behind the WOT? If you want to attack the lunar left, why not attack them at a site where they post? Wars are won because people stick together.

Not like our liberals wouldn't want it the same way, but then again most Canadians would consider John McCain to be a right wing extremist

Most Americans today would consider John F Kennedy a right wing extremist warmongering radical too, Buckwheat. Especially those of the Dim-Rat persuasion.

By the way, I seem to remember you posting almost identical comments on this same article when it was posted 2 weeks ago. Are you a slow learner, or just really persistent?

Hey CommonSense1stOverParty,

Penis transplant reported in China
Penis transplant removed after two weeks

Unfortunately this is how that story ends.

LOL!

And before anybody says it I KNOW that the USA, in addition to other countries, have similar idiots as those 22% in that canadian poll. However, this thread is about canadian perceptions of 9/11.

Yes, so let's take the opportunity to bash every Canadian!/sarc
I guess the main problem here is that you think of Canadians the way I might be thinking of Palestinians...many have ticked me off, so I dislike and mistrust them all.

Too bad we don't have any Palestinian FReepers. We do have Canadian FReepers, Conservatives, as it were. Right, Fair Go? ;-)

In any event, you must realize that dumping on all of Canada, because we might have one or two more moonbats than the US, even going so far as to spell our country's name without a capital 'C', well that's going to spell trouble, around these parts.

BTW, your mother wears army boots.

LOL. I love that old and forever, to me, confusing, insult. We need not let our common cause and friendship be disrupted by those who would disrupt everything that ties our two countries together.

I've never understood the insult in that phrase either, which is why I picked it.

All I know is that most people laugh when they hear it.
