It was widely reported in the aftermath of 9-11 that the Boston hijackers had taken the ferry between Nova Scotia and Maine, and then took a commercial airliner from Portland, Maine to Boston. I was not aware that this was untrue. When and how was this story refuted?

Even were the story true, both American and Canadian authorities would be at fault. About 25 years ago, I took the ferry from Bar Harbor, Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada and back and recall minimal security on the part of border officials of either nation.

I don't remember when the issue was cleared up, but I remember hearing the (false)rumors after 9/11.

Ping also to Tony Snow, if you still lurk here. I hope you know the truth now, as I heard you on Rush once, (before becoming press sec.) giving out the same incorrect information.

Also see: "Please accept my apology to the Canadian people for perpetuating the error; one I am sure that has been very painful to them," said Gingrich and, further, he "deeply regrets" what has become a "widespread inaccuracy."
