"THE PATH TO 9/11"
Sunday, September 10 @ 8/7c
Monday, September 11 @ 8/7c
V

Only available on ABC and ABC.com.

Shirley Douglas
Madeline Albright

NIGHT ONE
September 11, 2001. Teams of terrorist hijackers board four American airliners and take control of the cockpits. Passengers and flight controllers quickly learn something is terribly wrong....

February 1993. On a similarly ordinary day, New York is stunned by a deadly bombing at the World Trade Center. The discovery of a traceable van part at the site leads to the arrest of one of the conspirators, and he is linked to a mosque led by the Blind Sheikh, a radical cleric. A valuable FBI informant helps bring down the cleric and his cell. A manhunt for elusive WTC bomber Ramzi Yousef ensues, and he narrowly escapes capture in Pakistan, where he is linked to the attempted assassination of Benazir Bhutto. Yousef travels to the Philippines, where he tests an innovative small bomb that kills a flight passenger and comes close to bringing down the plane as well. He's almost captured again when a fire at his bomb-making lab exposes to Manila police his plot involving the simultaneous bombings of a dozen airliners.

Yousef is finally brought down when an informant in Pakistan tips off a team of agents working in coordination with FBI counterterrorism expert John O'Neill. Yousef's trail leads them to a rebel named Usama bin Laden.

In 1998, journalist John Miller's interview with bin Laden is broadcast, and O'Neill and others in Washington are alarmed by the al Qaeda leader's fatwa against the U.S. CIA field agent "Kirk" contacts bin Laden's primary opposition, General Massoud of Afghanistan's Northern Alliance, and they concoct a plan to capture bin Laden and bring him to the U.S. to face justice. The plan is never approved for action, but the simultaneous bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa push the Administration to respond with an ineffective missile strike that some think merely elevates bin Laden's stature in the Muslim world. Arrests of al Qaeda operatives at the Canadian-U.S. border and in New York on the eve of the millennium provide further evidence that Muslim extremists are bringing their holy war to America.

Stephen Root
Richard Clarke

NIGHT TWO
The October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole sends O'Neill and his team to Yemen, where he runs afoul of the U.S. Ambassador, who tries to have O'Neill recalled to the States. The investigation in Yemen stalls, but the White House, confident bin Laden is behind the attack, continues to debate how to stop him.

In 2001, counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke's warnings about bin Laden are downplayed, as is an FBI agent's warning to his superiors that some suspicious individuals are learning to fly jet aircraft. O'Neill butts heads with the CIA over their lack of shared information, and while intelligence agencies squabble, al Qaeda terrorists, under the radar, continue with their hijacking plot.

O'Neill, his career stalled by an incident wherein he lost his laptop, and tired of the bureaucracy, retires from the FBI in August and takes over security at the WTC. Shortly thereafter, the Northern Alliance's Massoud, who had pressed the U.S. for assistance against the Taliban and warned that bin Laden might strike, is assassinated by al Qaeda agents. Two days later comes September 11, and O'Neill dies bravely, along with thousands of others, in an attack by the enemy he had devoted his career to thwarting.

In the aftermath, the 9/11 Commission is formed to study the events leading up to that fateful day and to form recommendations to confront the threat of terrorism.

They will just run the show late and have the evening news run late.

DO you actually think they will cut short this cash cow because the president is speaking?

According to others, there are two edits to the film, the hanging up scene and then Albright's scene.

But, these are just TWO of the scenes.

According to the writer, the film is SO HEAVILY TILTED toward Clinton doing nothing that these minor edits simply will not remove that feeling from the minds of viewers.

Michael Scheuer (the guy who wrote Imperial Hubris and is NOT a Bush fan, came out and just ripped Clinton, saying this movie was completely accurate):

"As I have told you, the core of the movie is irrefutably true: the Clinton administration had 10 chances to capture of kill bin Laden. Had the 9/11 Commission not whitewashed events, personal culpability would have been assigned and we as a nation could have moved on to fight al-Qaeda. The Commission turned out to be hack-dominated, however, and ignored the documents that were presented to them, as well as the testimony it received under oath. Instead of telling the American people that the intelligence regarding bin Laden, al-Qaeda and their intentions was abundant, precise, and not acted on, the Commissioners blamed 'the structure of the intelligence community' for the failure and then proceeded to wreck the community with a horrendous reform package.

"The solution is really quite simple, I think. Declassify the documents and testimony of the men and women who risked their lives to collect the intelligence that Clinton and his lieutenants failed to act on. Present this information to the American people -- and perhaps put some of those officers on TV to answer questions -- and then let the chips fall where they may. If the critics of the ABC movie are so confident they are right, they would surely welcome this process."

Attention - all San Diego area people - the local CBS station in San Diego is showing the program at 10 p.m. - not 8. They are delaying it because of the bad language.

And .. we all know the Clinton admin had filthy mouths - all the time.

Agreed. BTW, how is the view's ratings with her on there? I wouldn't waste a brain cell watching her, BW or Joy Bahar, but I am curious if the show is sinking.

This should scare everyone -- it has nothing to do with Disney or ABC, but our basic Constitutional Rights. ACLU is always screaming about separation of Church and State, yet not a peep about an out-of-power group of people (shall we say Shadow Government) threatening a broadcast network by basically insinuating they could lose their SEC license if they don't cave and the dims take power in DC again.

As I watch the networks spin this it seems everyone, even normally conservative people, are afraid to side with ABC in this.. not because they think it's not true, but out of fear -- that, should scare the he!! out of every one of us.

Never watch or care a hoot about "The View". IMHO, anyone who watches that show is either on drugs or the booze. The good news for such viewers is when their precious Democrat Party aids, abets and enables Bin Laden & Company to partake open season on the USA and American citizens, viewers of "The View" will be too stoned to feel the pain of their heads being chopped off. Talk about "Viewer" denial!!!

Was it Bruce Lindsey that went after a prominent attorney via his clients for daring to ask tough questions of Lamont before the Connecticut primary. I read some comments on this from Lanny Davis who said this was scary stuff that they went after this guy in this way for not towing the DNC party line and trying to be independent and he (Lanny) was concerned how quickly they found out who this guys clients were.

More correctly the website says these are the clips the Clintonoids *want* censored. They are rather damning of the Clinton regime.

That juxtaposition was particularly horrible on many levels.

Justly, you should be proud of that unique accomplishment.

I don't watch it either, but I saw the outtakes when Sean Hannity was a guest and Rosie was a guest host and rude would not even describe her actions or her comments about the President... I can't help but hope the program goes down in flames with her as guest host.

Never thought I'd find common ground with Bin Laden or the Taliban leader about anything, but the "Clinton is Satan" comment was pretty darned accurate.

A Tiny Tommy Daschle moment?

A controversial television dramatization that alleges former president Bill Clinton, seen here in August 2006, did not try hard to capture Osama bin Laden has roiled emotions over who is to blame for the September 11, 2001 attacks.(AFP/File/Jorge Uzon)

update: Although ABC.com schedule hasn't changed, DirecTV's has. It now shows for Monday night:

8E/7C - 9E/8C - Path to 9/11
9E/8C - 9:20E/8:20C - Presidential Address
9:20E/8:20C - 10:17E/9:17C Path to 9/11 Continuted

Originally, the time shown was a full five hours. It would appear that 3 minutes have been trimmed. The last I heard that sounded it came from ABC was that they would trim the scenes that "put words in the mouth of real people that were never spoken by those real people". If so, as we've been treated to the "offending" scenes repeatedly on news channels, the uproar will have little effect other than to boost viewership by those inclined to buy into the story line and cut viewership (perhaps) by those who are not.

Almost seems like the mouse went for the cheese to me.
