I agree! If he was so wonderful, why would President Bush let him go? President Bush surrounds himself with competent, intelligent men and women. I just don't understand why the writer of the film would portray Clarke as such a star, because after 9/11 he was one of the ones who was constantly causing problems and hindering the administration. It would be interesting to see the script.
This Bodine Biach, is she gone as the Ambassador? If I had lost a loved one on 9/11 I would make it my life goal to get all these people.
Hi. Welcome to FR. Don't mind the dubbing you will get as a "newby". If you have lurked for awhile you know that everyone gets that treatment. Judging by your name, I would say you are old enough to hold your own. Freepers are a contentious lot, but basically good-hearted. I think conservatives are a lot like cats. independent.
I'm watching MSNBC and two talking heads are having an argument about the merits of the film--Republican Sherry Jacobus and Democrat Tom Behr. Behr's main rant about the film was that the scene with Clinton wagging his finger was followed up by two generic agents saying "I guess we can get bin Laden as long as is not responsible or known to be responsible" (or something like that). Behr said that Clinton said "Kill bin Laden".
I think he is missing the point that regardless of what Clinton said in the light of day, the on the ground agent had the impression that they were supposed to cover Clinton's ass at any cost. Ever since the days of King Henry II obliquely saying "Will no one rid me of this troublesome priest" public officials have been speaking between the lines to provide themselves plausible deniability. The Clinton cadre's MO now is to point to the public pronouncements without reference to the actual understanding that people had at the time.
Behr sounds like the new Lanny Davis. I guess Lanny finally wised up and got off the plantation.

In a scene last night some Massood said that 42 million dollars was sent to the Taliban instead of the Northern Alliance. What happened? Did some government big wig ask his secretary to send the money to the Northen Alliance in Afganistan, and she sent it to the Taliban with a note, "Please send to the Northern Alliance."?

Presidents pick *all* ambassadors, with the help of their staff, especially the Secretary of State. They may pick career foreign service types, but can nominate anyone they choose. Ford (or Nixon, I'm not sure) chose Shirley Temple Black, who reportedly did a great job in Ghana and was later appointed by Bush I as ambassador to Czechoslovakia Clinton chose that one, she was his responsibility, regardless of her status before she was appointed.
I thought the movie was excellent. I learned a lot about people and events I wasn't aware of before. Like "The Lion of Afghanistan"...My heart aches over that one!
I think this movie should be required viewing in all high schools.
Yesterday, I watched the streaming real-time feeds from CNN and Fox on 9/11. It was like reliving it all over again. Not sure if that was good for me emotionally or not. But that, plus the movie, really hit home that we need to fight this evil in our world.
I had forgotten about some things from 9/11, like the members of congress spontaneously breaking out singing "God Bless America," and the explosions in Kabul that we thought might be our retaliation. We were so united in our grief and anger back then.
I also want to thank whoever mentioned that actor James Wood being on The Tonight Show last night. That was powerful stuff.
Tell her she's a drooling imbecile unfit to teach in any school..... OK, try to say it a bit nicer than that, but tell her in no uncertain terms that it is not the place of a 7th grade reading teacher to push far-left moonbat propaganda on her young charges.....
