Wal-Mart's marketing is based on the public perception that it's prices are less than other retail stores. Quality is not pushed by Wally World as a marketing concept. The truth is that WM's food prices are higher in many cases than other local merchants. Bargain shoppers, if they are astute, will soon learn other merchants offer a more pleasant shopping experience with lower prices. For example, Target stores, often have lower prices and a better environment. Wal-Mart is getting a lot of bad publicity today because of very low wages. But people are more incensed by the company's attitude about health benefits. About 70% of WM employees (and their children) are dependent upon upon government for Medicare or Medicaid.

So what your telling us is that the American tax payer is funding health care coverage for Walmart employees?

There is a Wal-Mart Supercenter around 15 miles from us. The prices are so much lower than the local grocery stores and a wider variety! Their produce and meat departments are excellent too. The folks who work there are friendly and very helpful.Just my experience, of course. I refuse to buy at Target any more than necessary. Their lack of community values and higher prices irk me. :)

You said:
"About 70% of WM employees (and their children) are dependent upon upon government for Medicare or Medicaid."

Got proof for that statement? I think your wrong, and your bias is showing....

But why let a good lie get in the way of bashing a large company right?

Hard to believe the rest of your rant when you can't get your facts straight, huh?

I guess you would be happy when the unions come in and take over walmart huh?

How about this one?

"The truth is that WM's food prices are higher in many cases than other local merchants. "

Got proof for that one too?

I doubt it......

The truth is that WM's food prices are higher in many cases than other local merchants.

WM sells 20% of the groceries sold in the country. The average grocery shopper at WM saves 17% over shopping elsewhere.

Recent study, released in the last week or so. I'll try and find it.

And if the WalMart bashers get their way, 100% of them will be dependent on the government for everything ... because they'll be out of work.

" the lowest prices for food are found at WinCo. Prices are about 25% cheaper than WM."
"The truth is that WM's food prices are higher in many cases than other local merchants"
"The only thing I have purchased from WM in the past three months was a large container of liquid detergent sold on sale as a special item"
"Wal-Mart's marketing is based on the public perception that it's prices are less than other retail stores"

You sure don't respect this thread much you're simply making stuff up and trying to pass it off as knowledge.

We don't even have to be fans of Walmart to know how silly your statements are.

The most cost conscious shoppers in America have identified Walmart as the lowest priced store, yet you are telling us your chain is 25% cheaper.

Winco is in my state now, I can't wait for Walmart to reduce their groceries another 25% so that they can survive against the store that you consider more acceptable to Democrat sensibilities.

While living in the Baton Rouge area, Walmart was by far the cheapest. The other alternatives were Winn Dixie, Albertsons, and the big box Target. All of these stores were way more expensive.
In addition a good number of college students from LSU and Southern University not only depended on Walmart for shopping, but also for part time jobs(most were on parents health insurance plan). We always shopped at Walmart while living there. Now that we live in TX we still sometimes shop at Walmart.
Answer me this if Walmart is so expensive and horrible why did a vast majority of college students not only shop there, but also work there. Prospective employees are already aware of pay and the benefits that come from working there. If they don't like it they shouldn't apply for the job.

Your entire diatribe against WM is a crock.......but this sentence takes the cake:

About 70% of WM employees (and their children) are dependent upon upon government for Medicare or Medicaid.

Why do you subscribe to this leftist, union backed crapola?

I just followed your link.

Gee, you really are a dupe.

Two of my immediate family members work for Wal-Mart, so I am intimately aware of what Wal-Mart does and doesn't do.

Is it a perfect company? No, but I'm not going to waste my time explaining to you something you can figure out with a little bit of intelligence and critical thinking skills.

Wal-Mart is getting a lot of bad publicity today because of very low wages.

My buddies wife has worked at Walmart for years. Probably 15 or so. She is a team leader or department head, or whatever, but she isn't a store manager or assistant manager. She makes $20 bucks an hour. They recently informed her that she could no longer receive raises, as they needed to raise base wages. If she wants more money, she has to get into store management, which she isn't interested in, and she'd have to take a cut in pay initially.

"About 70% of WM employees (and their children) are dependent upon upon government for Medicare or Medicaid."

Yet the people aren't angry at the government for even delving into such an individual choice? How stupid are these people that are angry? They want the government to take care of them, therefore they want to limit the choice of the other 30%.

I've found your statement on WM and other stores to be true. When our first Wally World opened a couple of years ago I shopped there, teased by the word-of-mouth and my SIL's loyalty to the chain (she lives in Arkansas). I found it crowded, the asiles cluttered and disorganized, the checkouts packed and the prices were NOT competitive. Groceries I buy on a regular basis were priced higher than Meijer: that said, Meijer had been lowering prices for months in anticipating of losing customers to Wal-Mart. They didn't lose me.

One thing they have in common -- lousy checkouts.

Have you actually SHOPPED at Wal-mart ... then Target ... then HEB? While like anything yes you can find "bargains" .. but overall Wal-mart offers greater selection and lower prices on groceries.

For meat - I hit Costco or Sam's ... but for basic groceries Wal-mart is consistently lower .. at least here in South Texas.
