Enough Apologies
WaPo ^ | September 19, 2006 | Anne Applebaum

All of which is simply beside the point, since nothing the pope has ever said comes even close to matching the vitriol, extremism and hatred that pour out of the mouths of radical imams and fanatical clerics every day, all across Europe and the Muslim world, almost none of which ever provokes any Western response at all. And maybe it's time that it should: When Saudi Arabia publishes textbooks commanding good Wahhabi Muslims to "hate" Christians, Jews and non-Wahhabi Muslims, for example, why shouldn't the Vatican, the Southern Baptists, Britain's chief rabbi and the Council on American-Islamic Relations all condemn them -- simultaneously?

Nothing the pope has ever said comes even close to an apology! He is only sorry that muslims are too stupid to understand what he said.

I hope that this helps wake some people up.

Even if the Pope says:

"Kill the Muzzies wherever you find them. Annihilate Iran."

Then he will only be at par with the mainstream religious leaders representing the Satanic death cult called Islam.

The Pope needs to kick it up several notches beyond even that to warrant an apology.

It is waking people up. Now even some of the pro-Islamic French are starting to wake up and say Islam is bad. It is about time, we (at another web-site) have been telling the French for years they are finally getting it.

Not too bad for the WaPo, but I don't know why she keeps calling his lecture a "sermon". A sermon happens after the Gospel at mass and is generally thoughts on the Gospel of the day. This was in an academic setting.

From what I hear from a learned friend, if B-16 gave that lecture to a group of non-theologians they would have been hard-pressed to fully understand it.

Additionally, it is manifestly clear from B-16's other writings on the subject in depth, that he doesn't believe that modern islam has to have intrinsic violence in it.

While he has clearly spoken of other religions than Christianity as "deficient" how else can a Pope view such a question?

I think that this general reaction is simply clear proof of the monolitic entitlement to jihad and triumphalism that the islamic communities hold.

"Not too bad for the WaPo,"

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Applebaum usually somewhere
to the left of Leon Trotsky and supportive of anything resembling appeasement? I was surprised to see her take on this..."lurched uncontrollably into the truth?"

Poll: Sinking Perceptions Of Islam
(IN) Although Americans believe they are better informed about Islam than they were five years ago, a new CBS News poll finds fewer than one in five say their impression of the religion is favorable. Forty-five percent of respondents said they have an unfavorable view of Islam, a rise from 36 percent in February. Americans today are also more likely than not to believe that Islam encourages violence, at least in comparison to other religions around the world. The poll finds 46 percent of Americans believe Islam encourages violence more than other religions, compared with 39 percent of Americans who felt that way two months ago. The last few months have seen escalating sectarian violence...

Yeah, I think there's a section on the WaPo job application that covers traits of a good reporter.
