Perry and Strayhorn have regressed, Strayhorn by a considerable margin, while Bell (15 to 23) and Friedman (16 to 23) have moved up. Bell is finally consolidating Democratic support (from a pathetic 32 percent in April to 44% in July and 55% this time) and is getting more Independents (from 10% to 18%), while Friedman has picked up Republicans (from 10% to 23%) and more Indies (32% to 39%). Both Perry (65% to 56%) and Strayhorn (20% to 14%) have seen their GOP strength decline. Strayhorn has also seen her Democratic support wane, as she's dropped from 30% to 20%.
I am also voting Kinky.
Gov. Good-Hair pushed the business tax in Texas.
Besides, Texas governors have limited powers, far less than governors in other states. It's our Texas heritage to be distrustful of executive powers. The real power in Texas lies in the Lt. Governor, being head of the TX Senate.

Exactly. I'd love for there to be a better solution to school finance then new taxes but short of what the legislature did, the only options were a constitutional amendment creating an income tax or one that made "robin hood" to be constitutional.
Kinky wants to solve the 'education crisis' by giving teachers more money and not testing the students...lol. As a conservative from way back..I say it is time to TEST THE TEACHERS!! Kinky is giving in to pressure groups..don't be fooled!
Imus promotes Kooky every morning on his radio program. He is giving him a lot of free publicity and money too. Gonna be a sad situation if Kooky becomes governor of Texas. I thought Texans were a little more sophisticated than that. Guess not. :-/
Kinky will not be able to get the legislature to pass the legalization of marijuana (or gay marriage) through......they will pass almost everything else....PLUS, Kinky is on record as being a one term gov......THAT works for me!

You misrepresent his position. The TAKS test is a failure in Texas. The only reason it is implemented is for Federal funding, which Kinky believes is unneccesary. He wants education funded completely from Texas dollars, and he wants to raise pay to attract better teachers.
He recognizes the correlation between education and poverty/crime.
I'm just going by what Brad told me......of course this is POLITICS. I have a great deal of respect for Paul Bettencourt and he was against it so there must be something to it. I'll prolly end up voting for Kinky... he probably won't win but he might finish high enough that it will wake up those boobs in Austin that they better get in shape or they may find themselves back home in their next election.
God help me, but I might just move to Mississippi if Kinky wins. Either that, or I'll actively start the 'recall kinky' drive the minute he's elected.

Yeah, that's just the big three against him, without knowing how he stands on state income taxes, lower property taxes, crime and punishment (very lenient, from what I DO know of him).

Amazing that Texas has five candidates running for governor and not one is a conservative. Two claim to be Republican but they sloughed over from the Democrat aisle a long time ago and haven't got the Democrat tax-and-spend blood out of their systems.
Perry will still win because a large percentage will vote GOP no matter what and there's no run-off for this election. Strayhorn's biggest problem right now is convincing voters she didn't just die.
Should be one of the more interesting debates we've had in a long time though.

To serve as Governor of Texas, a person must be at least thirty years old, a United States citizen, and a resident of Texas for at least five years preceding his or her election. These are the only legal requirements to hold the office.
Looks to me like he's qualified for the job.
