"Machiavelli" was the code word caught on a tape with him and some shady characters and an informant wearing a wire that was going to bring him down in a corruption scandal.
He cut the scandal off at the pass by "coming out" as a "gay American".
Everybody concentrates on the "gay" diversion and has forgotten about the issue that forced him to "out" himself in the first place.
