A new Middle East war is in the offing. DEBKAfile’s exclusive military sources in Iraq and sources in Iran reveal that Turkish and Iranian air units as well as armored, paratroop, special operations and artillery forces are poised for an imminent coordinated invasion of the northern Iraqi autonomous province of Kurdistan

Iranian and Turkish assault troops are already deployed 7-8 km deep inside Iraqi territory.

Could there be at least 20% of validity?

Put it this way, I'd be highly suprised if Turkey has not had war plans for the Kurdish area of Iraq for the last 4 decades.

If this is true, and anything from DEBKA should be so prefaced, then such an event would be the likely time for Iran to announce that it has deliverable nukes and that Paris and Bonn are targeted should the US interfere.

Who are these DEBKA people anyway and why do they keep trying to keep me awake at night, sick with worry?

I don't know who they are. But somewhere between the crap that comes from Wolf and CNN and the conspiracy theorists and Murdoch's fox selling share to Saudi Arabia "Prince" this is somewhat balanced I believe.

Anyone who listens to Glenn Beck might remember this was number 1 on his perfect storm.

I'd say so. In July during the Israeli-Hizbolla dust up Turkey was accusing the US of employing a double standard in the region because we supported Israel's right to attach the hizzies but we were preventing Turkey from attacking Kurdish rebels in Northern Iraq.

Glenn Beck has been saying that his sources ( I know, I know..he's a radio entertainer but he is paying attention to the M.E.)claim that Turkey is being radicalized almost daily. Turkish newspapers are virulently anti-American. Their biggest blockbuster movie is about war with the U.S. and their current best seller in fiction is a book about murdering the Pope while he's on a visit to Turkey. Supposedly the Turkish government is getting colder to us everyday...from their refusal to allow us to stage troops and materiel in Turkey near the Iraq border to the present day. And no matter what they think of US...they really hate the Kurds and we have to be very careful dealing with the Turks. I'd say that region is more of a potential powder keg than the Israeli-Lebonese border.

I think Glenn gets a little hysterical sometimes but he's more shrewd than his hystrionics may lead one to believe.

I would opine that Iran and Turkey may strike at Kurdish rebels in Northern Iraq, but I doubt if they would seek to annex territory.

Would US forces allow an Iranian deployment 7-8Km inside Iraqi territory? I think not...unless its part of a bigger plan to lure them in...

It seems to me that the Kurds are the only sane people in that entire region. Debka has always been innaccurate and should get a tagline much like the barf alerts.

Turks and Persians were enemies throughout history. 4000 years of war isn't going to be over suddenly.

On The Fix Report they were just talking about the Kurdish Premier threatening secession over the oil split. That struck me as possibly the biggest story of the day. DEBKA may not be right about imminent war, but something seems to be going on.

I hope the Pope reconsiders his plans to travel to Turkey. It strikes me as a "spider and the fly" situation.
