Some of you have probably already seen this and/or read about it, but it was new to me when I saw it on TV tonight and I'm guessing it will be new to a few other FReepers out there as well.

I don't know--I'm guessing from the truck driver.

I saw part of the video you mention on the news last night. What a hell Iraq is.

Also, on the news, they did show a follow from a surveillance plane. One of the US contractors is lying dead on the ground, and locals gather to throw stones at the corpse.

Yes from the truck driver. Please note this happened one year ago. Looks like it was a bad scene.

Yes, this is the same report. Would have been nice to have seen a big explosion at that point.

Yes I saw that a while ago, very disturbing to say the least. People are already playing the blame game. Some are blaming the soldiers for abandoning them. It's not as easy to say that in the fog and heat of battle. If you'd notice in the video the escorts up front are yelling for the trucks behind to get out of the kill zone and to keep on driving. I'm sure that's standard protocol. Unfortunately the ambush and gunfire was too much and the escorts up front lost the trucks behind them. If you'd notice you'll also see a lot of dust everywhere. But I don't know what went through the minds of the escorts up front since I wasn't there.

If anything I would put fault at the extreme restrictions put on these contract workers that do not do security detail work, and as such are not allowed to carry weapons (at least not "legally"). That, and the lack of protection in their trucks.

Are you suggesting that we should have blown up the terrorists? That would be insensitive!

Do the terrorists deserve any blame in ABC's eyes?

The lead escorts left, as is SOP. 2 of the other escort vehicles stayed behind and engaged the bad guys. We aren't getting the full picture.

One question and two observations:

#1. If he was alone, who was doing the video taping?

#2. If he really feared being killed, it seems to me he'd be praying instead of taking God's name in vain.

#3. Halliburton is right; they know the risks when they go over there. But, the big bucks, very big bucks, makes them not care about the risks. That's called, feed your greed and take your chances.

worst angle of this story....

the truck driver that filmed the attack was fired by gasp! Halliburtn.

...for getting injured and being unable to fulfill his contract...hehe.

Halliburton admitted, but said it was SOP.
Those boys can't buy worse PR.

Why is ABC showing this now? It happened about a year ago.

There was a hearing in congress last week about a convoy ambush. Maybe it's the same one. This was covered on C-SPAN and featured some of the truck drivers. It sounded like the whole thing happened because managers at Halliburton sent civilian fuel convoys down a road where a battle had already been in progress for a couple of days.

Why were the convoys sent? Evidently because Halliburton got paid based on the movement of the convoys.

A number of civilian truck drivers were killed or wounded in the ambush. In one case a wounded truck driver was sent a letter by Halliburton saying that he was eligible to receive a medal from the Defense Department if he signed some forms. Included in the fine print on the forms was a waiver of liability for Halliburton.
