I agree and I'll go further. I think the Path Between the Seas should be required reading in high schools. The students need an education to develop some baseline for the costs of human endeavor, the need for proper logistics and the value of the sweat of their grandfathers.

big dig

Big dig???? Did somebody say BIG DIG????

Now I know what's going on..

The bozos from Boston who presided over the Big Dig farce are looking for their next "money pit", or "glory hole" as it may be!

I wonder if Nicaragua has extradition?

I doubt it. China should hate this. They will have to pay to take it over too, and it will make things better for the US Navy. China also has much more power over Panama than Nicaragua.

So are they going to go under or over the mountains? Even at the southern end there are mountains. Can't imagine removing that much dirt for 50 plus miles of mounts.

In all liklihood the proposed route will follow the same route that has always been proposed.

Up the Rio Juan via locks, across Lake Nicaragua, then via deep cuts and a few locks from the lake over (and through) and down the mountains to San Juan del Sur. The last stretch is only 15-20 miles -- which would be a lot less foreboding today than it would've been around 1900.

"I think the Path Between the Seas should be required reading in high schools."

Well on the bright side it has lots of pictures for those students who don't know all the big words.
