Nancy Pelosi would be wise to back off from this one. Clinton's been there.

And Bawney Fwank.

And Studds (or whatever the hell his name is).

And a HOST of other effeminate boy-buggerers in the demonRAT party that haven't been caught yet.

He can always change his party affiliation.

The left is the pro-homo party. He'd be considered a hero there. He should go for it to save his career. He and Barney Frank could become ....ahem....good "friends" (if they're not already).

Is he sure it wasn't poker that made him do it?

Not poker.

It was poke-HIM, the sick-prick.

When he was nailed in 1980 for cruising gay bars, chasing young boys, etc. conservative congressman Bob Bauman of Maryland used the alcohol defense. Later, he just admitted his homosexuality.

It may well cost us more than a seat. It could cost us the entire House. I've gotten angry with the coverage, though. Yes, Reps should have dealt with this a long time ago. But I can guarantee you that Dems knew about it too and waited to spring this until now, just before the election. Their "it's for the children" just doesn't cut it.

If Foley were a member of the NEA he could go for the, "leave of absence with benefits..."

"Wait a minute...that NJ Governor did the same thing, and he's on Oprah! And a Rep who was a Kennedy relation did rehab, and he's already off the media radar with a nod for forgiveness because of what he's been through. Do I smell...a double standard?"

Two fallacies in your argument:
1. McGreevey did not proposition 16 year page boys.
2. Conservatives have higher standards.

The guy should be in jail not re-hab. That said, yesterday I sent the following message to the Speaker, the not so honorable Denny Hasert:

I am a Republican from New Orleans, LA, sadly represented by Dollar Bill Jefferson. But you, sir, are as bad as any other political whore in the Democrat party – you knew about the Foley situation and you kept it secret for months – what was the reason for covering for Foley? The only possible explanation is your desire for power and the fear of losing it. That is reprehensible and cannot stand – at this point the only reason I want to keep unethical Republican trash like you as the majority is that my fear for the country if the Democrats take power is greater than my disgust with you. At the very least, you should resign as Speaker.

Yes, of course. There is a double standard because we do not share their standards! The Democratic party is the party of pervs and criminals. We don't accept that. This is what sets us apart. We dont get to lower our standards- we make them raise theirs.

Yep. I believe people will notice that. "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones!"
The democrats are right out in front beating themselves in the head with their own past. Let them talk. It's a good thing.

I don't doubt this but again this comes back to leadership. This coming out was forseeable. Politics is a rough game. If you know an uncomfortable secret about an opponent you don't spring it in March, you spring it in October. Our guys would have waited until right before the election too if they had a juicy secret. Thats why this should have been headed off at the pass and Foley should have been eased out months ago when the first emails came to light.

Taking lessons from the Dem play book, ala Patrick Kennedy?

Hope one behavioral lesson he learns in rehab is to stay out of the United States Congress.

I agree entirely. They should have known better. Keeping this secret was vile and we will pay the price--in fact the world may pay the price if the Dems retake the house because of it. This man was a known homosexual. I hope that Republican voters in the future will be more careful about who they elect for government representation.

Why didn't he just change parties? All of this would be forgiven on the other side of the aisle.

Hey, it worked for the Kennedys.......

On second thought. I find it rather amusing that everyone anymore blames their problems on something else. Now I'm not that old, but I do remember being taught as a boy all about personal responsibility for one's actions. I think not only Foley, but a lot of these people who get caught being imperfect humans show an immense lack of character by blaming booze, (or prescription drugs, pornography, too much coffee, whatever), for their own failures.

Well, at least Foley had the good sense to resign. Gerry Studds never did, nor did Patrick Kennedy....or William Jefferson Clinton, for that matter. So who are the real hypocrites here?
