Foley Case Upsets Tough Balance by Capitol Hill’s Gay Republicans
The New York Times ^ | October 8, 2006 | MARK LEIBOVICH

Posted on 10/07/2006 4:32:36 PM PDT by taylorstreet

Every month or so, 10 top staff members from Capitol Hill meet over dinner to commiserate about their uneasy experience as gay Republicans. In a wry reference to the “K Street Project,” the party’s campaign to build influence along the city’s lobbying corridor, they privately call themselves the “P Street Project,” a reference to a street cutting through a local gay enclave.

For many of those men and other gay Republicans in political Washington, reconciling their private lives and public roles has required a discreet existence. But in the last week, the Mark Foley scandal has upset that careful balance.

Since Representative Foley, Republican of Florida, resigned after sending sexually explicit electronic messages to male pages, gay Republicans in Washington have been under what one describes as “siege and suspicion.”

Some conservative groups blamed the “gay lifestyle” and the gathering force of the “gay agenda” for the scandal. Others equated homosexuality with pedophilia, a linkage that has long outraged gay men and lesbians...

how can they keep someone else, who really wants to visit, out?

There is something called a secured patient. Mostly, I've seen it with victims of crimes that the hospital has to protect.

There was a confusing case I saw once. The family did not want the boyfriend of their mother to visit. He was accused by them of neglecting her which had contributed to her needing the hospital.

What confusion. The patient was agreeable but had no memory. The boyfriend was belligerent. It was finally settled. The family member was the health care proxy by legal evidence of a health care proxy and a durable power of attorney.

"They also support NAMBLA with the help of the ACLU want to get the age of consent LOWERED so younger Boys can have legal sex with men!!! IT';s DISGUSTING!!!"

Gosh, I hadn't heard about Democrats supporting NAMBLA or the ACLU trying to lower the age of consent so that boys can have legal sex with men. Can you please point me to some sources?

They can be "outraged" all they want. Ask them when their first sodomite experience was and you'll find that most were victims of statutory rape.

Homosexuality is a mental illness. Homosexuals aren't born, they're made via molestation, abuse, and psychological trauma.

Talk about someone easy to blackmail, Foleys a prime example. I know he wasn't, but it's easy to see he could have been.

How do you know he wasn't? Secrecy is a key component of blackmail. Blackmail was used extensively during the coverup of the homosexual abuse scandals in the Catholic Church. Our "secret" homosexual bishops are constantly being blackmailed.

Most were quietly working among everyone else without a problem. Then the democrats started pushing the radical gay agenda on the American people. Now, the country finds homos repulsive. Before, they really didn't even notice they were there.

Exactly. I didn't become rabidly anti-homo until they started shoving it my face (and our kids' faces) 24-7, to the point where I can't watch TV anymore.

Some homosexuals are offended by the practice.

A statistically significant number participate.

You know I HAVE looked and I've found absolutely nothing about the ACLU trying to get the age of consent lowered for NAMBLA so that young boys and older men can have sex. You must know where this information is so could you possibly pass it along? You probably have it archived.

I also know that some Democrats think anybody without a criminal record should be allowed to be a Boy Scout leader (not that I agree), but I still haven't been able to find reference to Democrats specifically supporting NAMBLA. I can't find anybody supporting NAMBLA except the perverts in NAMBLA. I've looked but obviously am missing it. Could you be so kind as to pass along your bookmarks and references instead of just accusing me of living in a cave?

Homosexuals should be excluded from positions of power. Their deviancy makes them a poor security risk. It is that simple.

I always hear about ACLU support for NAMBLA, but there never seems to be any evidence. There may have been a lawyer somewhere who defended NAMBLA's right to exist on free speech grounds somewhere, but even so... that doesn't mean the ACLU supports an organization that many think doesn't really exist.

That last is a controversial point, but I've never heard of a real member... radical "free speech advocates" who are willing to defend the group's right to exist, but never any real member of the group. There's a possibility (this is based on private information from a Houstonian who was approached by supposed members of that group 30 + years ago) that they were just a police sting operation that's taken on a cyber-life of its own.

I don't think I've seen mention of this group outside of people condemning it, in 20 years. Just because a website in Canada exists, doesn't mean the group is real.

Hey, I still await your documentation of the Democrat and ACLU support of NAMBLA and legislation to allow adults to have sex with young boys. I've searched and can't find it. Surely you have solid evidence of this?

"Google ACLU NAMLBA...you will read for yourself!!! Or do you need me to paste it to you because you can't google??"

I guess I do need you to paste it because I still can't find where the ACLU supports legislation allowing men to have sex with young boys. I DID find where the ACLU supported NAMBLA's right to free speech when the parents of a 10-year-old boy tried to blame NAMBLA's web page for their son's murder (last I looked NAMBLA advocated some extrememly vile things, but not murder). The ACLU also made it clear that it did NOT support men having sex with boys or NAMBLA's position on that.

Defending free speech, even if it's vile free speech, is quite different from your position that the ACLU supports legislation to allow men to have sex with boys. In addition, I still haven't found where the Democrats support NAMBLA

So if you have a URL that supports your position please send it. If you continue to refuse to do so, I'll have to assume you have no such proof.

Ah, when you've been caught and have no defense call the person stupid or a troll and accuse them of being unable to to their own search. Pretty much how the liberals operate.

If I didn't do some searching how did I know about the case with the 10-year-old boy and the lawsuit? Was that just my ESP?

Maybe I'm not smart enough. In that case wouldn't you want to help me out so that I'd learn more? Of course you would. Surely you'd have pity on the brainless. Except you can't because you took your hyperbole so far you can't back it up now.

I just think that when we make a claim we'd darn well be able to document it as the truth. You apparently think it's just OK to lie.
